That makes up for the embarrasing loss to the UofK football team.

Almost.

That was a hard fought win but the truth is UofK lost the game because of the free throw line.
If they hit their normal 64%, they win going away.

Glad they missed. We were way overdue to win a game against them.

Agree somewhat. There were several blown and missed opportunities/possessions on both sides that you could call out.

The Cards had a chance to really put UK away or build a strong lead in the 1st half when they were up by 7.

It's a game of runs though and UK made one at the right time to get back in the game.

UK is primarily a transition team with limited half-court offense and limited shooters. They also cannot defend off the dribble especially their guards. They also do a terrible job defending the pick and roll.

There for a minute I thought the Cards were going to let this one slip away. Either way happy to get the win.

I was wrong. UofK actually shot 65.5% from the free throw line which was better than they normally shoot. The real issue is they got to shoot 29 times from the line compared to UofL's 20. UofK missed 10. UofK missed 5. That turned out to be the difference in the game.

No it does not. Football loss was worse, knocked us out of the Orange Bowl. Both teams will still be in the NCAA tourney regardless of last nights result. I would always want to win in football if I could only choose one. [But then again, its priceless seeing all the bitching and moaning at work today, lol]

Beating your rival in what they care about most is always satisfying...so I will enjoy the sweet taste of this win without consideration of the game played months ago.

We really need UK to improve in FB, so competition there is a good thing and it didn't hurt us significantly as far as Bowls go...LSU vs Mich is a toss up in my book. Toss in Lamar's post season awards and we can't really be too upset with the outcome of our FB season. Not all losses are equal.

Also, let's not give our rival any ammunition for fodder...they had their fun in FB, now it's our turn.

Enjoy the day Cards fans...with UVA coming up, this could be a defining stretch an put us in a really nice position come March.

Louisville has been to the Orange bowl.
Theyll go again and to the playoffs.
SuCkS wont be a success in football.
The way they played against UH, Michigan would have just mashed their face in it.

I'm torn. Football is by far my favorite sport. We've established ourselves at a certain level in football and they knocked us down a notch this year.

However, I think the basketball team needed this more than the football team.

I have seen a lot of my big blue friends say it was worth it to win and football and lose in basketball. Do you guys feel the same way vice versa?

Thats what rivals say.
Truth be told, both sides want a swep.
UofL is successful in both football and basketball
uofk is successful in basketball (finally football this year)

Wouldn't call us successful in football. We lost to southern miss. You might say what's the difference between 8-4 and 7-5 but imo there is a lot

I'd call you successful in football. Yeah, got off to a bad start, but finished strong and got your first bowl game since 2010. Success doesn't come over night. It's measured in steps. You took a big step this year.

Well of COURSE you would. Because that's you, k-ratz. Just showing your true colors.

This would be one of those people I was talking about in another thread that got upset with me last week on the football board.

I am truly sorry that I really don't care what you think of me, but in the spirit of Christmas I'll try to act upset if it makes you feel better.

I'd much rather have won the football game and there is no comparison. However, after the loss to Houston and Clemson the game meant a whole lot less in the end and it was evident.

Plus the football team can afford to lose a few. Since I have been alive, it hasn't been much of a rivalry and Louisville has dominated. Kentucky needs to win every once in a while to keep it interesting. Plus their football program has been pitiful since I can remember.

In basketball, it really doesn't matter if uofl wins or loses to UK because they are still a very successful basketball program regardless of that one game.

No, it doesn't. You don't lose to UK in football. You don't do it. There's a stigma.

I agree. Winning last night certainly helps, but the reality is this game doesn't mean much in basketball. Both teams are nearly always highly ranked, so unless it's a blowout it has little impact on the season/March seedings. Still, it was a relief and fun to watch, absolutely no doubt about that.

Never want to lose to Uk in either sport. Would've loved to get the sweep but with Lamar's Heisman it made the loss a bit easier to bear. I know some others might not see it that way but such a great first for the football program was pretty darn special.

However even though the basketball game doesn't mean nearly as much to the Cards basketball season, with them being in the ACC, I felt like we NEEDED this win. It was very satisfying to beat them in basketball and protect home court. Would rather it be 2-8 than 1-9 against them. Have to beat them now and then or it isn't much of a rivalry.
