Super Regional Game Times Set

We have another baserunner on 1st, 1 out. Another HBP.

Wild Thing Ricky Vaughn in for the Cats apparently.

Really good start for U of L. Our offense can get us back in the game rather quickly, but I'm very concerned about pitching right now.

End of the 4th inning the Cards still lead 2-0. We ended with bases loaded was a missed opportunity. Good Cardinal crowd looks 80-20 Cards. I looked at the Cardinal roster and I was schocked how young our team is.

UK pitcher just got the 1st out, but went down 2-0 in the count to the next batter and they pulled him. No sound so not sure if injury was a factor.

Pitching change for the Cards and think this is a good move because he was looking a little worn out to start this inning.

I don't understand why we switched pitchers for this last inning. I know his has to do with innings pitched but I felt more comfortable with the other pitcher.

Cards take game one. Congrats guys. Glad our boys showed fight down the stretch at least. We will need that momentum going into the next game. Hopefully we can force a third game on sunday. Go Cats!

Yeah I question the use of Hentzman there. It's probably because he hadn't pitched in a while but now UK has seen our closer and have to feel a little confident in facing him.

That could work the other way. Now that Hentzman has knocked the rust off, he might just be better next time out. :D

It's always huge to get that 1st game win. ALL the pressure is on UofK now.

I'm good with the move. It's a best-of-3 series, you have to get 2 wins anywhere you can to advance. You want to throw your best at them when you have such a great opportunity to get 1 of the 2 wins you need.

And who knows, if someone else were in there the game might have ended up a loss. You just never know.

I'm happy with the decision, and happy with the win.

Agree with everything you said. Perhaps I should have use the word "worry" instead of question. Baseball is 99% mental and 50% physical or something like that. I'm a worrier. In the last 2 years we failed to get to Omaha because we went straight to our closer for the win. What that does for you is tell those other 7-8 pitchers that I don't have enough confidence in you to get me 3 outs before they score 4 runs to tie and 5 to win it. Let's play the other scenario. UK had the tying run against Hentzman. If they tie it up then who do you go with? They just took your best. I don't want to see that happen this year especially against the kitties. I will be there tomorrow cheering for a 2 game sweep! Go Cards!

Awesome atmosphere today. Very happy to see McClure pitch so well. He deftly worked through a couple of jams. The HR by Ellis was a bomb. Glad to see him step up. Just need Fitch and Hairston to do the same.

I played baseball through high school and learned something new today. I had no idea that a coach could decline a catcher's interference call. When the call was made, I jokingly said to some guys next to me that I would decline the penalty. Little did I know that could actually happen. Smart move by Coach Mac.

Yeah even Coach Mac alluded that he wasn't sure about it. You usually see a situation with a balk called and a player hits the ball you can take the hit. You usually don't get an option of taking an out.

If it were a longer series, I'd be more inclined to sending someone else out at the top of the 9th. It's just that the Best-of-3 scenario has such a small margin for error, I'm in favor of throwing the best we have at them and early rather than later.

I worry too, but if we put our best players out there and get beat you just have to tip your hat to the opposition.

Well for now I am going to assume that Hentzman hadn't pitched in a while and needed the work as oppose to CDM worried that UK would come back..

Probably the last time we get to see McClure at Patterson, and I've got to tip my cap to the senior, not only for the performance yesterday, but for his leadership with this group. He is one of the unlikely guys in that role, but what I saw yesterday on and off the field, shows me is is a key one.

McClure is a junior but for all practical intentions, he will be gone after this year being drafted.
