Staff Changes

As Jeff Greer talked about, KP isn’t leaving but obviously there needs to be an overhaul, including the staff. What changes do you think need to be made?

In my opinion this staff needs guys that are either PHD candidates (poor, hungry, determined) or guys that have adidas connections.

Based on what recruits are saying, it sounds like Nolan and Kenny are doing the lion share of the recruiting. Nolan is the only bench coach that seems to have a pulse. So I think retaining him makes sense. He fits the PHD requirement although his ties are thru Nike.

Manning looks disengaged and frankly doesn’t meet the PHD requirement and he doesn’t have big Adidas backing. So I’d say he’s gone.

Jameson came from Oregon so clearly he is a Nike guy. Seems like going back to a Nike school would be the best move for all parties.

Lastly is Milt Wagner. Given that he couldn’t get his grandson to really look at UofL, I’m not sure what he is bringing to the table. The position he has seems perfect for someone trying to break into the coaching profession. It might be best to free up his time so he can watch DJ in Lexington.

I like the approach of bringing in a retired former head coach who was successful at any level. Schools that have that experience on the bench appear to at least be stable even if they're not climbing the polls.

I agree about Manning, and I'd probably make Nolan Smith the #2 assistant if only because that guy should be looking for a lifeboat. He has most of his career in front of him and doesn't need this job to get there.

Better talent is needed, but the fundamental problem is Xs and Os. A new assistant must have proven coaching experience, ideally as a head coach...
