So what do they do with Reggie now?

Thank the Lord because we were getting spanked and the run game was non existent!

I expect this might happen, but not until next spring. We need him at QB. I'm sure everyone still remembers what happened last year.
If he wants to play professionally he needs to switch asap. As far as being a backup, he can do that as a slot receiver. It would add an awesome demension to the offense

Reggie did not have that bad of a game. His failure to understand with any on-field awareness what was happening with his fumble showed a disturbing lack of effort on his part and may well have dug a trench between he and Bobby..

Position switch?

If yes, offense or defense?

2 QB in the same backfield can't be all bad..Wildcat that! He could always play receiver, he did most of his time at Trinity. Switch back to QB if needed.

With this offensive line Reggie has to be the back up this year. The question with Reggie is he going to continue to grow as a QB. He made some really good throws and you can see his arm strength. He has all the physical tools. The question is will he get it mentally. His biggest problem is the game moves to fast for him right now. He is a little slow in feeling pressure, takes too many sacks, has trouble throwing to spots, and he doesn't quickly goes through his progressions. All that comes with more experience.

He isn't a natural on the read option. While it looks really simple when done correctly that is a fast moving play. Reading the end is critical and he doesn't do a great job with it. He missed a couple good opportunities in the first half.

He missed Quick in the first half because he waited for Quick to get open instead of anticipating the throw. That is a skill that takes time to learn. Teddy was great about anticipating or knowing when and where to put the ball.

The reality is he needed to be redshirted last year but circumstances didn't allow that to happen. He needs more time in learning the position. His window is this year he either improves in those areas or he doesn't. If he doesn't he will switch positions or transfers.

He didn't play bad but he didn't generate any points which is his job.

Assuming Quick is out for a lengthy time,I really hope he gets some time as a slot receiver

What do you mean? He's the back up QB. You saw the way Jackson was running all over the place, all of the hits he took. He's bound to get hurt. We still need a b/u QB and he needs to be ready. We played 3 QB's last year so it is counting on a lot to assume Jackson will play 12 more games and won't get hurt. Why would you just get rid of our top prospect for the back up QB?

Nothing. He's your backup. How would your other 2 QBS hold up with that line? Reggie can't take snaps in practice at WR because he needs all the snaps he can get at QB. Until your line can block better it looks like it's LJ and RB. Not sure what if anything happens with Bolin. Does he transfer out if he stays at #3 or #4 after this year?

Bolin will hold up fine, and I'm thinking the drops with him will be quick and the ball will get out quickly.

I was going to make another topic about Reggie, but I will keep my comments on this OP. After watching Ohio St. I was wondering if Reggie could be our Braxton Miller. Yes Reggie has some skills at QB, and we know he can run, but how good is he catching the ball and having the strength at WR. Does UofL have another great WR in Reggie that we dont even know about.

I wouldn't be surprised if Bolin transfers.

He is a talented D-1 QB. His talents don't fit the shotgun veer scheme that Coach Petrino has implemented. He is no longer in the mix (unless there is another emergency to rescue us from).

There are plenty of schools, where he would be a great fit...with eligibility left. I I would wish him luck. He doesn't need to carry a clipboard.

I believe KB would be the better backup QB. He has better QB awareness than RB, and while not a running QB, he is quick enough to evade most rushes. He finds his receivers faster than RB. RB could then focus on receiver.

I said over the summer that Reggie's future at Louisville was not at QB, and eventually he will have to change positions. Hopefully next year he will be catching passes or intercepting them. Because of the O-Line this year, Louisville has to have a QB that can move. RB is the only other QB in the Cardinals stable that can beat his feet. He's going to be the backup QB, because it's very likely that a true freshman QB who likes to run will get banged up.

I don't think you see the read option with Bolin in the game.Coach Petrino is running what suits the qb.I don't think the offense he's run for 20 years has been shelved.

I had to ask myself the same question Saturday.

I cannot see why the urgency, at least for Reggie. RB is a true sophomore. If it took him more than two full years to learn the WR position and impress NFL scouts, then he's not going to be a pro at that spot, either.

Also as a true sophomore, he has plenty on his plate learning the QB spot and being our backup.

Difference of opinion I guess.
As said in another thread, Reggie is faster than Braxton Miller and has better hands so instead of feeding the stud, lets keep him on the bench as a backup qb......

It is clear to some that the athlete that Reggie is would make a very nice slot receiver and that you add an element that defenses would have to prepare for.

Does any body really think a qb is going to make a full season every game without some type of injury or nick especially a true freshman. The way this kid likes to play he will take a pounding. And his body is nowhere developed to sustain this all season. So Reggie will be needed to play. And he will see snaps in games to keep him involved and ready. No he ain't gonna be moved to WR unless he chooses that route himself.

With thoughts like this its amazing Michael Bush was not saved to be a backup qb instead of the all american rb in the wrong position.

Lamar runs real smart and minimizes the head-on shots or the fiercer body shots at the end of plays. Bobby's recognition of this was proven in his press conference - which I found fairly enlightening. Personally, I cannot imagine a better scenario than having the QB's we have waiting in the wings in the event of injury. Inasmuch as our brutal schedule levels off after the FSU game, I would expect the maturing line to allow many more minutes for Bolin or Will.

Lamar was crushed a few times and bounced up like it was nothing. Kid is tough. People said the same about Teddy. Said Teddy was to frail to play qb at Louisville. Smh.....
Some of our fans need to stick to knitting.... Football is a contact sport. Lamar is game.

I had to ask myself the same question Saturday.

I'm with you. Coach Petrino has implemented a shotgun-veer concept and seems to be committed to that, for now. (I agree that he may return to his previous offensive philosophy, re: the recruitment of QBs Tanner Morgan and Jawon Pass....but if Lamar is successful, that may change)

Reggie will remain the back-up and Kyle will be # 3.

If Kyle is good with that, so am I. However, if he were my son, with that skill-set and eligibility, I would advise him to find a better fit and transfer.

Lamar has a ton of potential. If he can make defenses pay, when they cover with 3 and keep 7-8 near the LOS, then he will be dangerous. (UK did that to us last year, and they almost got us)

I don't know, and don't claim to know anything of importance about this team

But one thing I do know is, the "Reggie is the next TB" crowd sure is quiet.

And no, I'm not picking on RB. He's a Card, and I want him to succeed as much as anybody. CBP put him there. If he put him there KNOWING he hadn't improved...it's on CBP.

IMO RB was playing ok. We were moving the ball. The loafing on the fumble doomed him because it gave CBP an excuse to put LJ in. And the rest is history.

I still need to see LJ pass the ball more, with some touch. Teams will stop his run.
