I logged into my Cardinal account a few minutes ago and I noticed that my seats have gone up for the upcoming season. (if I don't relocate)

I knew that they would go up, but I'd figured they wouldn't till the expansion is done and completed.

I feel like they should lower ticket prices to get people in the new section. I know they have to cover the expenses for the expansion, but they have almost reached their goal through just fundraising alone. I feel like an empty new section looks worse than not having the new section at all.

Tomorrow we'll hear that UL made another $40 mil somewhere.

But will tics go up.

Jaded in my old age.

Face value goes up a few dollars every year. Nothing new this year...

Everything has a limit - regardless of how many thank you phone calls are made by the women's rowing team.

I can tell you this... They'll probably stop increasing in basketball before they do in football. The former has a huge % of unused seats and needs to DOWNsize, not enlarge...

They won't stop increasing in either regardless of % of unused (which isn't the same as unsold) tickets they have. They believe for every lower bowl / arena season ticket holder that doesn't renew (probably me with basketball next year) there is someone waiting to snap them up. They've been mostly right so far - but everything has its limits.

Yes and no... Completely different dynamic in the upper and lower seating areas.

That's why I only mentioned the lowers...
Understood, but I think you're mistaken about the lower bowl. I see no indication that price has become an issue for the ten thousand or so people sitting there.

In the upper arena, I'm not sure how low the price is that stops net attrition...

Guess you misunderstood me or, I wasn't clear as we're saying the same thing about the lowers - to this point - there's been a never ending supply of people who will pay whatever's asked. I was wondering in light of the every year increases, when (if?) the tipping point occurs.

I got another question, maybe someone can answer it.(it's season ticket related) On my Cardinal account it says that my due date to pay the season tickets off is May 1, on the relocation request form page it says we have till May 2nd, if season ticket holders were to relocate, how can the due date be 1 day apart from each other?

You pay your regular invoice by the 1st. If they can accommodate your relo request to your satisfaction, they will credit your payment toward your new seats and sell your prior seats to another buyer. They do this every year...

Thanks, I always pay the full due amount on time anyways, just this year I thought I'd try to relo if possible, if not, they told me I can keep my seats/location.

These incremental increases are usually a result of a cost of doing business going up. I remember talking to some of the AD folks about one of the increases and it had to do with the cost of additional electricity use/rate hike. It hits them like it does us.

If they were looking at a fund raiser type of thing we see a substantial increase on the game ticket or CAF donation.

After the meltdown at the end of the season and the disgusting loss to UK, we can all agree they should have more money.

.
Yeah, but that's just lip service. They pass along regular increases because they can, pure and simple. There's enough demand for the product.

Watch what happens if that--demand--ever changes. (I hope it never does...)

Yeah, so prices go up somewhat every year. So what? It happens. I'm paying more for chicken at the grocery also. No big deal.

There is a ceiling for everything. Just depends on if that ceiling gets higher, or lower.

If I had to buy my tickets by Jan 1st, there is a serious chance I would not have.

Sarcasm? or are you being facetious?

No sarcasm. Our prices seem to increase somewhat each and every year and that includes tickets AND chicken. Now that's sarcasm. :p My point is that it's not really that big of a deal and I've just become used to those increases over the past 40 years or so.

I don't think Louisville's having any trouble selling football tix. If there's anyone unwilling to accept more price increases, they will sell your seats to someone else...

It's a total business enterprise, which I'm fine with (although I could do without the incessant promotions at the football games). Anyways, because of that I have no problem with people leaving early, coming late, standing on the party deck, etc. It is a cash cow beast that has been created. And when the school treats it like a pro sports program, then one should expect fans to treat it the same way.

More and more college football programs are "treating it like a pro sports program". And that goes for basketball programs also. When you have the coaching salaries you have then you MUST generate income when possible. Just think about non-revenue sports and the salaries of those coaches. Just Tuesday night our baseball program had it's annual game with uahkay and close to 50K was raised thru ticket sales for that game but that won't come anyway NEAR paying for the program since the balance of our gamed are free. And I absolutely love the fact that our fans can go out and enjoy Cardinal sports without having to break the bank. Of course we do have concession income but that won't cover the expenses either. So it's up to football and basketball to shoulder the expenses for all of the other sports. And I don't mind all of the "stuff" that happens at those games when I put it into that context. And yes I do mind late arrivals just as I would at Actors Theatre or the Kentucky Centre as my tickets cost at least as much as those tickets do.

I completely understand why they raise season tickets for football, I just figured they would wait till the expansion was completed cause I already know that they'll raise them again next season w/o a doubt.

When will they announce the time for our season opener against Clemson? I HOPE they'll schedule it for a night game, I wouldn't in the least be surprised if College GameDay makes it return for that Saturday.
