LOUISVILLE AT GTECH GAME THREAD- 3:45PM THE CW

#3 Iowa State got blown out at home tonight against a Kansas State team with a losing record.

It's the nature of sports. It's those teams that respond to upset losses that quickly forget the upset.

Would love to see GT again in the ACC tournament. Things would be very different.

Whenever you play a conference opponent you better be ready to play no matter the won loss record. Your conference opponents are familiar with you and they are more prepared for you than a non conference opponent.

This was one of those meant to be defeats that all favored teams have experienced on the road. This new Louisville team is not immune to the momentum monster that creates these kind of upsets.

In that second half, GT looked like the Louisville team that had won 10 straight games. It looked like Reyne Smith was playing for GT. During that 21 to 3 run, GT looked like the Cards.

Louisville looked stunned and I saw the doubt that we haven't seen since December. They simply couldn't will their shots to go in this time.

GT were faster, quicker and more attentive than Louisville. They wanted it very bad and when the Cards didn't respond, it was like a feeding frenzy. Even when Kelsey adjusted to posting up and getting fouled, we missed all those free throws.

I think the guys realized that they would likely lose and there was nothing they could do to stop it. They lost focus and their attention to details was replaced with thoughts on how they couldn't believe this was happening.

I knew we weren't going to win out but was hoping the loss wouldn't be to a losing team. No telling how far Louisville will fall in the polls, both human and computer. This can be a good thing if they respond with another winning streak. They now have experienced how one half of lost focus can get you beaten by any team.

Always learning and adjusting.
Polls don’t matter, metrics do so this one will hurt them. This is still a flawed team in that they aren’t super athletic. The teams they have faced with better athletes have really beat them up. This was a game not having Waterman, Pryor or Johnson kills them. Can’t stretch the floor with Waterman and Pryor. It all allows their big to play inside the paint. Johnson would provide more athleticism at the 2 so shutting Smith down doesn’t kill them offensively plus he isn’t a liability defensively.

Matchups certain matchups will be a big problem for this group.

Better watch out mentioning our injured players because some here get a bit upset when doing so.

This will get them refocused.

It truly sux as a fan to make a long road trip to a game we “should” win…..and take it on the chin.

I thought Waterman was ready last game?

Any word on his return?

Unfortunately like in football, losses usually lie at the feet of the QB. In this case, Chucky. All you have to do is look at his numbers, specifically the assist to TO ratio, 5 assists and 4 turnovers. Those are not typical numbers but also Scott with only 2 points and Reyne 1 3 pointer. Those guys and more importantly our offense thrives when those guys are involved and Chucky has to understand thats part of his job. They don't create shots and points on their own. Edwards also had a big hand in this and there was a couple of times where he wasn't even looking for Reyne and tried to get his shot off while he was guarded by two players. I get it, he was playing in front of his family and friends. We also need someone other than Chucky to handle the ball but Edwards doesn't give the ball back. Hadley then decided to join in the fun of hunting shots as well. This team didn't look or play like a team, they looked like 3 guys and Traore trying to put up points.

I didn't realize Edwards was playing in front of his family. That's definitely why he was taking a lot of shots, which he started off making.

They definitely didn't play team offense like they have been and I think some of that was trying to one up GT who was playing lights out during that 22 to 3 stretch. That part of the game is why Louisville lost.

It was bound to happen, just didn't think it would be a team like Georgia Tech.
