Same story different year

This wasnt a late game meltdown.

It started at the first 8 minutes of the 2nd half.

Cards couldn't score.
Probably couldn't score playing 5 on zero.....

They aren't good defensively which ends up getting expose as the game moves along. There may be games when they shoot it good for 40 minutes, but the reality is they are very inconsistent shooters. It leads to big runs for short spurts then reality sets in. They can look great for 20 minutes then things go sideways and they aren't good enough defensively to stop good teams runs.

Duke and Virigina didn't play well for 20 and 31 minutes but when they got it going Louisville had no shot. This is a talent issue. Nwora is border line NBA player but he is awful on the defensive end other than that there are no other NBA guys on this team.

Pitino could never figure out Virginia even with much better teams at his disposal than this one. This doesn't absolve Mack of some of the other losses but I thought both Virginia games would be losses this season.

Agree. Lack of depth from Perry and VJ is an absolute killer. Second half fatigue is affecting second half shots. No legs = poor perimeter shooting.
Don’t understand not giving Perry and VJ SOME minutes. Gotta get the starters some rest. Perry has been playing better and neither’s confidence is going to get any better never getting in.

You are absolutely correct...CC, Nwora, Sutton are gassed with no breaks.

Blah.. blah... blah... we were up 12. The Coach has to figure out why the team can’t hold leads..
We were up 12 because 95% of our shots were 3s, and they were going in before the half. They made adjustments, we didn’t and that’s in part because our front court doesn’t know how to work the post.

Double-edge sword there. Yes, they need a break but if the guys that go in turnover the ball, etc. the games over even earlier. Neither of those guys have earned minutes. Just a fact.

You give them breaks in the first half to set them up for the 2nd half push.

Cards had only 5 turnovers.

The scoring drought by the whole team is what cost them the victory.

I agree...we are not using the bench enough...I think it is a mistake.

Our bench stinks. You think Mack forgot how to coach? While there is nothing wrong with criticizing and questioning him I think he’s using who he can trust. Perry and VJ bring maybe decent defense, but that’s it. Both are shaky with the ball and are offensively challenged.

Limited roster. He squeezed all he could out of it this year but they are fading back closer to the expectation. Hoping they get a W next out can't take it for granted.

They beat UNC for a full game.. or don’t you remember? Was that our super bowl?
Yes, I remember. I also remember that UNC shot 34% for the game (13% from 3 - missing 19 of 22 mostly wide open attempts) and missed 10 free throws - including several front ends.

It was a great win to be sure but, UofL played their best full game of the season and UNC their worst.

The recipe of the UNC game was followed in the Duke, FSU and Virginia game not to mention VT and NC State. The only difference was the coaching staff failed to make necessary adjustments. Players didn’t just stop playing.

You’re right. Mack should have made those teams continue to miss open shots like he did with UNC.

The UofL basketball season is starting to look like how they play a game. They look good in the first, and bad in the second. I HOPE THEY CAN TURN IT AROUND. WIN WIN WIN

Go Cards!!!!!

And yet Jerome and Guy were 4-22.. Do you always put so much thought behind your responses?
And yet - UVA’s top three scorers shot 22-29 (75%) for a combined 52 points, equaling UofL’s team total. Jerome and Guy could have been 1-22 and Louisville still would have lost. Do you always put more effort into being smug than being correct?

A big factor is being overlooked that a good friend of mine pointed out yesterday:

We lost a HUGE long time asset when Strength and Conditioning Coach Ray Ganong retired last summer.

We used to be the team that was ready to pounce when the other team weakened in the closing minutes. Now we're the pouncees.
