I’ve seen a couple names thrown around for the next Rutgers coach. You have to figure it’s a job going to someone going down in their career and not climbing the coaching ladder, right?
Obviously, I’m not an expert and have literally 0 insight on the coaching search. This is all speculation because there’s nothing else to do on a Monday.
The main names I have seen are Butch Jones, but he has maybe(?) something good going at Bama. Bret Bielema is the DL coach at the Patriots last I checked, so that isn’t a bad gig. And then, Mr. Road Rash himself, Bob Petrino. But, if you’re going to hire a nationally panned head coach and be a joke punching bag for who you hire (i.e. Hiring Bob) wouldn’t you just obviously go with Greg Schiano since the devil you know is better than the devil you don’t?
Does anyone have any other ideas for who It could be for us to disagree on for the next few months?

According to footballscoop, Schiano parted ways with the Patriots in the off-season because he believed that he would be in line for the Rutgers job.

Petrino would be a very good hire, but it is important to also open the pocketbook for a top notch defensive coordinator with him. Petrino’s offenses are a lot of fun to watch. His press conferences aren’t nearly as fun, however.

And if you’re looking for another good coaching candidate, consider Charlie Strong. The teams he put on the field here in Louisville in 2012 and 2013 are some of most talented we’ve ever had here, and we went 23-3 during those two seasons, beating Florida by 10 in the Sugar Bowl and Miami by 27 in the Russell Athletic Bowl.

And if you allow Charlie to hire former Miami player and assistant coach Clint Hurtt (also an assistant at Louisville) they will establish the kind of pipeline to the Miami area that you need to contend in the Big Ten East. The only problem with Hurtt is that he was given a show-cause penalty for his involvement in the NCAA violations in Miami ... but that show-cause expired many years ago. Your press will give you grief about hiring him, but it wouldn’t be against any NCAA rules to do so at this point.

Are there any top notch DCs that will work with Petrino? If so, why in the world did he hire those last two scrubs?

His ultimate downfall was the inability to retain a competent staff for the level of football they were trying to play.

What the fark are you smoking? Do you have amnesia? You selectively forgot everything rotten about every head coach you listed from the affair with a boosters wife to literally hiring his entire family to fill out the staff. I think you also forgot how downright sh1tty the offense was in Petrino's final season.

And the collective turd laid by Charlie Strong in his last 2 jobs should tell you his success at UofL was 100% related to Clint Hurtt's ability to pull big players out of Miami, especially one Theodore Bridgewater.

Schiano will be rebooted. It will probably fail. Most 2.0’s don’t replicate their past.

He’s a good coach. I didn’t like that Tennessee pulled the rug out from under him because he was accidentally within 100 miles of the Penn State scandal. He had zero to do with that.

Regarding Petrino, pretty sure Pushup was alluding to his first stint at UofL (which was a huge success), his years at Arky (success), and possibly to his first few years of his second stint back at UofL. Petrino has had much success as a college head coach. And let’s be honest, the only reason Rutgers would be able to pull in someone with his resume is only because they are in the Big Ten.

But I do agree with you that they should be able to land someone better than Strong.
