Ross McMains Is New Assistant Coach

Ross McMains, who has served in varied roles in coaching and player development in the NBA, G League and international basketball for the past 14 years, has been named an assistant basketball coach at the University of Louisville under head coach Chris Mack.

Ive been watch YouTube videos of his offensive system, folks if Mack lets him loose, fans are going love this. New Zealand avenraged 9.8 seconds per possession in FIBA. Reminds me of old Denny’s team the way they attach the rim in transitions, but with kick out threes added. As I was watching some of the breakdowns, it reminded me of the early 90s cards with Minor, Morten, LA Smith running the court. It will be interesting to see how Ross strategy of 4 bolting players fits into Mack’s defensive schemes, at first glance it seems that it would work well with pack line, because the defense is predicated on good defensive spacing which will allow for break always after the shot.

While it remains to be seen whether the changes Mack has made will be successful, you have to give him credit for being willing to make changes to his staff and style of play in search of greater success. Many leaders who have experienced a certain level of success wouldn’t be open to such change. Coach Crum, in his final years, was one example of an unwillingness to change with the evolution of the game.

I dont think Ross is coming to change offense dive system. More player development and some international recruiting

It appears that Mack planned this change early on; as it is evident that pursuing Cross, Locke, and West for this roster gives UL a trio of experienced 40% 3 point shooters that fits exactly what is required to execute McMains international fast offense.

If UL can experience success this coming season by increasing its offensive scoring average, as a result of a much faster half court pace with anywhere close to the 40% 3 point shooting efficiency .......... UL’s recruiting for future NBA players will increase proportionally.

I really liked David Johnson, and I was disappointed that he left, but in truth ......... these three transfers bring a level of ball control, 3 point shooting efficiency and college experience that David lacked, as evidenced by his inconsistency from one game to another.

With all due respect. I was definitely frustrated with Denny in his latter days as it seemed he wasn’t adapting. However, he won 2 NC’s and been to several FF’s. He felt he had a proven style. Mack can’t say that in comparison. I am going to try and stay positive with that he was willing to fire his “friends” and that they were the issue. Go Cards!

But everything always comes down to the head coach. Mack is the one the runs the show and this guy can add some things, but if it doesn’t vibe with what Mack wants..won’t matter.

Been watching the YouTube videos of this guy’s offense. I’m super pumped to see it implemented by Mack. Hope he turns McMains loose to do his thing. Should be fun.
