Very sorry to hear that Billy Reed passed away today. He was a great friend to all sports personalities related to the entire state of Kentucky, not just Louisville and not just Lexington. Billy was old school in many ways and he was also one of the many past famous sportswriters that made the Courier Journal one of the premiere newspapers in the country back in it‘s day, when it truly was a great newspaper. He and his contributions to our local media scene, city wide, statewide and nationally will be missed. Rest In Peace Billy!

He wrote many an article for Sports Illustrated back in 70's and 80's under the name of William. F. Reed. Those were when the Cards and the Cats were rolling.

RIP Billy

He used to be on Drew Deener’s show every week, but just disappeared. They used to get into it every now and then.

Wonder if there was one incident that Billy crossed the line. One day he was just gone.

Billy was as responsible for shaming Joe Hall and UK into accepting UL as it’s in-state Rival as anyone, when he was on the CJ staff.

It is some coincidence that Joe and Billy died so close to one another …… not sure how their relationship ended, but I suspect it required some time to mend.
