So the 2014 Clemson game popped up on my DVR. Decided to re watch the game this morning after the dogs and kids decided to wake before dawn...

Punt return for 6 on busted coverage
2 dropped INTs
Field position on muffed punt
Fumble 6

And that's just in the first half. Coulda, woulda, shoulda.

2015's game should be very interesting. In PJCS, more seasoning on QBs (including Watson), personnel changes on both teams linemen corps, and Clemson on a short week.

This is the most important game of the season. We beat Clemson at home and they beat FSU at home, then we upset FSU and win the Division. Now that would be great accomplishment for our 2nd year in the ACC.

Was Quick on punt coverage a lot last year? Did that end after the Clemson game?

I agree wholeheartedly, one mistake after another. Yet some good things happened, too. Our defense held strong, even after the offense put them in terrible field position(s). And after all of that, on Quick's long run after the catch, the Clemson safety later admitted he was in the wrong coverage and should never had been in position to chase James down. James turned the wrong way, right into the safety's path. He probably didn't even see him until it was too late. With all that happened bad, the Cardinals almost won that game at Death Valley. My wife and I were there. Again, I can't say enough good things about the Clemson fans. Classy all the way. I hope our fans treat them as well up here as we were treated there.

By the way, I don't believe James will returning punts this season. Kickoffs, yes...but not punts.

GO CARDS!!!

I watched a lot of other games from last season. Did not have a chance to re-watch the Clemson game.

However, I would be willing to bet that there was quite a few down field open receivers.

In the games I re-watched, each QB would scan an area of about 10-15 yards at about 5 seconds. Apparently unaware of what the D was giving him downfield (missed assignment and/or identified wrong D).

Without fail, a receiver would be breaking down field wide open while the QB would try to force it over the middle (5 yards out) or take off running. Forced to punt.

When running the ball, make a key block and we're looking at a first down or second down and short yardage.

As for the O'line play, at times we would just break down on pass protection because of the time it took the QB to get rid of the ball (blitzes). Then we would have the dreaded missed assignment. That was a killer last year.

Also, way too many missed assignments on the O'line when running sweeps. All too often they would fail to contain the outside man or fail to stop infiltration while stringing out the play.

Nothing that could not be fixed. However, it's one of those things that takes time to teach.

The defense was not without it's flaws. However, they were no where near as repetitive as the offense. Most of their issues were created by short fields and too many of the O's three and outs.

We really leaned hard on our D last year.

Well, both teams had tons of blown chances so whoever lost was going to be 2nd guessing so many things. We made the last blunder so we have the most to second guess, spiked ball, failure on the goal line. If we had punched it in and won than Clemson fans would have been 2nd guessing having it on our goal line, with the chance to punch it in and go up by 10 and blowing it and having a guaranteed field goal at the end of the first have and letting the clock run out and saying how that game was theirs if they hadn't blown those chances.

I'll try to go back and watch it. If it is like our other games, I would expect to see what I described earlier.

I really liked Clemson's team last season.

What I was most impressed with was how our DB's were everywhere. It took incredibly good - and some lucky - passes for Clemson to advance.
