UofL is the #3 in the nation, a member of the ACC, and multiple players go into the NFL every year. When does UofL start to see more 4-star and 5-star players committing to UofL. Is UofL looking at more high profile transfers to transfer to UofL?? It is amazing, the great job that Petrino has done with the great recruits that UofL already has, I could not imagine how dominant of team it would be if it was loaded with the type of star players that Alabama gets.

I don't think it ever was about stars for Bobby. It is about recruits that fit in his system, their athletic ability and if they are coachable. Bobby has uncanny ability of finding diamonds in the rough. He needs to keep doing what he have been doing with recruiting.

Yep, he's not a star gazer. Doesn't need to be. This whole star system recruiting thing is for the fans.

This very topic came up in the context of the Ain't Played Nobody podcast (advance to 53:00).

Their faith in star ratings is adorable, and certainly teams that recruit big tend to play big, but not always. We are about to find out.

They argue that recruiting rankings will predict depth, and therefore, we need to be relatively injury free to maintain. That's arguable but certainly any team is vulnerable to crucial injuries (as any fan of U of L's 2006 team can attest). OTOH, anyone that watched the 4th quarter of FSU @ Louisville would be hard pressed to say that the Cards aren't deep.

Well, he needs to wake up and start being a star gazer or we'll be in trouble very soon. Don't you guys now UK is on the verge of surpassing Louisville in the next year? Their classes had been moderately higher on the star scale the last few years. Don't you see that UK is on the precipice of exploding based on the level of talent they have stockpiled? The star system predicts that Louisville won't be able to compete with them soon. o_O

(for the slow readers..........that's sarcasm)

In football it is so different then B ball. Hell kentucky is pretty much even with us star wise. I know don't laugh or spill your coffee, but it's true. So much is about where you recruit from. Case in point. You have Matt Elam that was a 5 star in Kentucky. If he played in Florida do you think he would be a 5 star. Hell, do you think he would even play except mop up duty.

I think Elam was 4-5 star material coming out of HS. Nick Saban personally flew in to meet with him. Anyone on this board think they're a better evaluator of talent than Saban? Didn't think so......

The problem with Elam is where he went and how he's being coached. Had he gone to Bama or UofL, he'd probably be a second round pick at worst. At UofL he would have started with Bedford/Strong and ended with Grantham. They would have motivated and coached him up right.

UofL will get a few more visits from elite prospects beginning this year as a result of our recent success. The recruiting services will also give even our unheralded recruits a higher initial rating out of respect for our program. It's going to be gradual, just like how the program has been built over the last 31 years.

I would love to see more 2/3 star players like Lamar Jackson and less 5 stars like we demolished at FSU. Their roster is flooded with 5 star talent while the ONLY 5 star on Louisville's roster is Quick.

Kentucky has a roster of 4/5 star talent as well.

It comes down to coaching. We have a hell of a coach in Petrino and his staff is competent. I like the way they evaluate and grow talent to reach its full potential. I will take the way our coaches scout, grow and nourish talent over anyone in the country.

Maybe they were going to make an OL out of him. DL is not his game.

I was curious about the huge amount of recruits (I heard 90+ total multiple sports recruits) at the FSU game and the impact of the game result on the recruits. I Tweeted several of the local recruiting gurus asking if we could expect to hear any commitments soon from recruits who attended the game. I never got a response, and that is probably because they want you to follow their blogs, join their sites, or subscribe to their newsletters. But, I am surprised we haven't had any commitments this week as a result of the big win last Saturday. I'm not at all concerned because we are doing just fine with the players we get. But I was expecting to at least hear of some commitments as a result of the FSU beat down.

I believe that some schools (uahkay) recruits stars while we recruit football players. A very significant difference. Then we coach them up. Another significant difference.

GO CARDS - BEAT EVERYBODY!!! God Bless America!!!

Not sure Matt even played against South Carolina. Maybe Stoops has given up on him?
