We have this notion that we can be a championship team. I think tonight serves as notice of just how big a gap there is. We have a once in a lifetime QB and can only muster 7 points in the first half. Clemson has the luxury of only rushing 4 guys because they have so much speed and athleticism in the back 7. They have a D coordinator that has been highly respected for over a decade. We have a d coordinator who's one previous coordinator job was a one year failure. We can beat FSU and Clemson every now and then with some smoke and mirrors but otherwise we have no hope to win the conference until the talent and coaching gaps are closed some.

This is the cold hard truth. The program is just not there yet.

There's no doubt the state of KY is not a national recruiting ground, so UofL is always going to be up against it in this sport without having the required tradition or local recruiting base.

UofL has shown the ability to rise to the occasion at times, and has sustained a competitive program under multiple coaches since Howard rebuilt it.

But, this is not FSU, or Clemson, or tOSU, or OU, etc.

I disagree with you here. Louisville's talent isn't all that far off. The issue is the trenches, particularly the defensive line. The reason Clemson only rushed 4 is because they can can get pressure with just 4. It's not because their secondary is all that good. (It's sort of a weak spot, in all honesty.) Louisville isn't bad up front, and they gave Clemson trouble at times. They just need those elite linemen up front, who can be disruptive. If you don't have that in today's game, it limits how far you can go.

Don't for yourself the talent gap is huge. I told y'all that Clemson would win the game because of the trenches and everyone laughed at me. And I seem to recall stating that we had the better coaching check that box as well. Clemson was always worried about Kelly Bryan but those questions of been answered.good luck the rest of your season wish us luck to win another national championship

We certainly have been able to get the skill players to compete at the top levels but what we do not have is the big guys in the trenches to do the dirty work. Elite team like Clemson, Alabama etc. have OL and DL elite talent 2 and 3 deep. We need to aspire to that.
That being said, our Cards have a history of putting things together eventually as they have progressed from the old Cardinal stadium ,small time conference days. We will eventually get there but these things are built over time. Maybe Bobby is the guy to get us there, maybe not.
We still have an opportunity to have a very good season. Last night was one loss to a very good team.

It's a fine line and momentum means so much in this game. The one play which killed the momentum in the 3rd quarter was the penalty that called back Lamar's 50 yard run. The score at that point was 19-7. The field position flipped on that one penalty, and then the pick 6 happened when the Clemson defense made a great play. Game over.

Clemson has a championship football program. We're still trying to get there. I still think we can and will eventually.

Definitely agree that penalty was huge.

Nobody laughed at you, you just angered readers on their home board because you were a complete asshole and they chose to debate you.

They should have just told you the below.

Chop off your fingers.

When a team has elite talent and it is well coached they are going to be incredibly difficult to beat. Clemson is really good. Louisville doesn't have that kind of talent level and it isn't even close. Louisville had no guys last night on defense that will play in the NFL, Clemson probably has 6.

People keep comparing the Bobby 1.0 to Bobby 2.0 the difference is the talent level. Louisville was always at the top of the recruiting ranking in the Big East and C-USA. They had equal or more talent that everyone else in their league. They also had the best coach in that league. That is not the case anymore. They are recruiting in the middle of the pack in the ACC. Petrino isn't the best coach in the league anymore, he may in the middle of the pack too.

They have done OK since joining the ACC, but unless they start recruiting better they will be a middle of the pack kind of team. It makes Louisville just like everyone else that doesn't recruit at that level.

I'm hoping to see more of the young talent playing on defense from here on out, especially in the secondary. Conceivably you could see 3 freshmen starting - Smith, Avery and Yeast. We already have the youth movement on our o-line.

I'm still amazed at how thin we are at running back and that we don't have an elite playmaker at receiver. Don't get me wrong, we have some solid receivers but I'm not sure any of those guys are ones that can play on Sunday's.

Thank you I wish Louisville the best also. You have a really good team with the best player in college football.

If you look at teams that have seriously competed for and won titles over the last 20 years or so, they have one thing in common - they consistently bring in elite recruiting classes. if you're not bringing in top 10 classes every year, you're not hoisting a trophy. Louisville has done a remarkable job with the talent they have. Taking the next step is all about stepping up recruiting.
