Talking today to a co worker UK fan who I usually respect his football knowledge, I just couldn't believe what I was hearing.

The discussion was about the Auburn game and how the Cards had no chance and was facing a big boy from the SEC West. Now if that was as far as it went I wouldn't be posting this. After all, it's going to be a tall order for the Cards to win. However, being the UK fan my co worker is, he had to go farther in his reasons to convince me that the Cards had zero chance.

He said he thinks UK's roster is more talented than UofL's and he still thinks UK will finish 13th in the SEC. He just ignored me when I say the Cards have three former big time recruits transferring in. I told him at least two of those (Fields, Clemons ) would have started last season if they were eligible. When I told him I think this Cardinal team is better than last season he thought I was crazy. After losing Parker? After all those draft picks?

He thinks he knows more about my team than I do. Yet, he couldn't name one current Auburn player or any player they lost from last year.

We made a bet he giving me 10 points for $50. He said it won't be that close but wouldn't give me more points. He may be right about that game. But he's full of it to think UK had more talent than the Cards. I have lost some of the respect I had for his knowledge.

You just got $50 easy dollars...guess your co-worker did not know that Fields is6one of the best pass rushers in College Football and JHC was 2nd Team All SEC

That doesn't matter to him. Louisville football in his mind doesn't reload. We have to be weaker after having 10 players drafted. At least not enough to compete with SEC teams on the field or on the roster.

You should have reminded him Louisville returns 11 out of14 in the Front Seven on Defense...the 6th ranked defense in the country....and Louisville Defense has been ranked in the Top 25 Nationally the past 5 years

Is your $50 wager on the UofL-UK game or UofL-Auburn game? I believe we are a 10.5 point underdog to Auburn right now.

We should have at least 7 NFL draft picks next year, and depending on how the Offense does, and some of the Juniors on D, that could climb another pick or two. That's pretty much the DEFINITION of re-loading.

Cayuts fans are pretty stupid, especially when it comes to football. You'll have the last laugh -- but by then, they'll've already turned their full attention to hoops.

It is comical to me that they all say we have zero chance , and that in fact we Willie blown out. Yet when you look at their season predictions, the Auburn game Isobel they all think is winnable for them. What a bunch of clowns.

Wake up! You're on the UL board right now. You don't have to be sucking up to them.

Yeah, they're -10.5

Florida was -14

I watched a replay of the AU / Ole Miss game tha OM should have won. I'd say CBP has seen enough.

If we have a QB, we're in this one.

I'll take 10.5

I just glaced over it and thought he was talking about the November game...the OP left points on the board...he could have gotten the actual line since UofL is a 11.5 Underdog..
Exactly...don't' ever give up points when you can get better at Vegas

He said in our conversation he would give me 10 points for a $50 bet. At the time I wasn't sure what the line was. I took the bet partially because I wanted to show confidence in my argument. That Louisville is not a CSA program compared to the SEC.

Not a bad bet at all. Bets with friends are always more fun, plus no juice. Just didn't get the "easy money" part of it. 10 points is a lot for a season opener. Will be important for your team that your fans make it truly a neutral field.

That is the thing...while UofL will have a huge travel crowd it is still extremely likely due to distance be a virtual Auburn Home Game...expecting a 70% 30% split in Auburn favor

Distance, and fervor of fan base.

While AU is closer to Atlanta than Louisville is, they could play at Lucas Oil and I think Auburn would bring more. JMO as a UK fan who grew up in Louisville and has many UofL friends (lots of whom plan on going to Atlanta).

Completely agree and it is not a slam on the Louisville fan base...SEC Football fan is a completely different animal especially at Auburn, Alabama, Georgia and Tennessee

Auburn home games are simply amazing. Stadium is nearly twice the size of PJCS, with every seat filled thirty minutes before kick-off, and a giant tailgate crowd watching the game on TV in tents set up all around the stadium. They must have at least 150,000 in or around the stadium all day on game day. Really awesome.

That's my thing. I don't offer bets to try to make money per se. I would just much prefer to win a friendly wager with a rival fan than from a betting site. It's my competitive nature.

Regardless of the percentage of fans who show up for each team, the game itself is a serious opportunity for the Cardinals to make an early positive impression on the college football landscape. If the Cards win, they earn instant credibility with everyone who isn't hyping only the SEC. If the Cards lose in a close hard fought battle, they'll still gain credibility even from those who are hyping the SEC.

On the flip side, if Auburn loses then the usual excuses will crop up as to why a powerful SEC team lost to a weaker opponent from a inferior conference. The Tigers weren't interested in playing the game..etc..etc.. If Auburn wins a close game then it's because they didn't really take the Cardinals all that seriously and only did enough to win, and if Auburn crushes the Cardinals, then it's because they were supposed to.

Perception.

That's sort of the advantage of the underdog, though, right? So much to gain, so little to lose.

Even a blowout loss to AU doesn't really do all that much to hurt UL's season. Auburn, on the other hand, could see their entire season (or at least their hopes for a CFP bid) all but evaporate if they don't win in Atlanta.

Disagree...if Auburn loses to Louisville in Atlanta they can still make the CFP but the margin for error is gone...remember Ohio State lost at home to Virginia Tech by 14 points

Right, which is why I wrote "all but evaporate." Specifically because of tOSU last year. For AU to lose to UofL and make the CFP would require that they go 12-1 including wins over Georgia, Alabama, LSU, and a win in the SECCG. It would be an uphill climb to say the least. So I think my point still holds. No disrespect, but I don't think a CFP bid is on the radar for most UofL supporters, so a solid season is still very attainable irrespective of what happens in Atlanta.

I took it as no disrespect at all and I actually agree with you...can't wait for the season to start

Thing is it never seems to change when you're talking about any SEC team playing anyone else and that gets real old real quick. Auburn may have a great team. I honestly don't know what they have coming back but I do know a team like Auburn will be hyped up regardless if they deserve it or not. I know Auburn went 8-5 last year while playing a brutal schedule IF you buy the hype.

UofL on the other hand has a bunch of defensive players coming back and a nice amount of offensive talent returning too yet they're barely getting any press at all in spite of winning 9 games and going 4-2 against top 25 teams.

Again, the SEC propaganda machine is alive and well IMO. I understand you see it differently. Maybe I'm a true homer, but I feel pretty good about UofL's chances of taking it to the Auburn Tigers. Hopefully I feel even better after the game!

I get that. What I would say, though, is that whatever undue hype the SEC gets is an advantage for your team (at least in this game). If the 10.5 point spread of the game is driven by SEC hype and propaganda, and the teams are actually much closer than that in true ability on the field, then you should be thrilled that people are talking Auburn up and suggesting you guys are in for a long night. Coaches are masters of motivation and playing Bill Simmons's "nobody believes in us" card. If the teams are close in ability (no idea really, Auburn struggled last year but the schedule is more favorable for them in that they get Bama and UGA at home), I would want everyone to pick Auburn in a laugher were I a UofL fan (perish the thought).

I just think, in this case, you can't have your cake and eat it too. I understand being annoyed by the constant SEC chatter. In this specific instance, though, I think it is fully in your team's favor.

The SEC west is really tough, that being said, they are nowhere near what ESPN makes them out to be. We stunk up our bowl game last season, but don't forget that the vaunted SEC west went 2-5 in bowl games. We will win this game unless we are disinterested .

Even if Auburn loses to UL they can still win the SEC and that pretty much guarantees you a spot in the playoffs.

If Auburn doesn't beat UofL let's be real, they aren't winning the SEC.

What tOSU did last year was a reflection of the horrid B10 and subsequently an undeserving reward to the playoff based on name brand. To make matters more fun, they went ahead and won the title, and I'm glad they did. It's the first of many more examples coming of the parity that truly existed, and not all the best teams being in just one place, which is what the powers that be (ESPN, etc) want you to believe.

1991 Fiesta Bowl: "You guys have zero chance against Alabama."

2014: "You guys have zero chance against Notre Dame".

Right. Rivals hate Louisville so much, it's as if they don't realize what goes on every weekend in college football.

There are major upsets every week, and there are even more "mild" upsets every week. Talking heads push certain products.

Wish I cared enough to screen save all the comments this time of the year last year about the UofL/ND game huh?
