Ray better decide in the off season if he wants to make money playing ball because he's the biggest disappointment on this team. He plays like he's 6'5 inside. To me he doesn't look like he's all that interested.

And for Anas, why does he continue to go under on his post moves? Just turn and shoot it normally or with a hook.

Couldn't agree more - it's literally like playing 4 on 5 on the offensive end.

If Anas is going to continue that across the lane move, he could at least stand tall and look at the rim - he has no chance to make that shot otherwise. The fact that he's being so outplayed by Salt is a joke.

He hasn't been doing that as much. He was going from over the top but he's back to trying to finesse the shot. This game shows what the Cards need after Mitchell and King. Everyone else is a role player meant to compliment the scorers. Without Adel and Snider this team is totally limited offensively.

Other than UK, there will not be a team I pull against more in March than Virginia. I hate them with everything I have. I hate their style and I hate how they somehow turn the Cards into the dumbest group of basketball players in the country. I loved watching Syracuse beat them by just making shots. Not ridiculous shots but just plain jump shots.

^^^^^This X 1,000,000^^^^^^^

I hate how they own us but, won't do squat in the tourney - again.

None of our guys know how to shot fake.Spalding...I don't know, just has no physicality at all.

I'm beginning to wonder about Ray thinking he might want to go somewhere else with the stud we have coming in? He can't seem to beat out JJ for minutes and barely jumps when he goes to the basket.

You'll always have this...

Ray doesnt work on his game outside of mandatory sessions.
It's like he doesn't really care that much. He may be one of those who only play hoops because of his height. He can get a free education out of it as well. He doesn't have enough game to play major college basketball. He has always been about potential. We all assumed with hard work he would be this awesome player. I beginning to think it's not even close to happening. You either have the desire or not. Just think of all the undersized post players who would give anything for Ray's height and length. I believe Rick only recruited him because he's a local kid. He will lose minutes even more next season if he doesn't make an effort to improve.

Coach P said on his show that Ray needs to work harder this summer than he did last summer.

Spalding was a lot better last year than this year. I think the way Rick took the approach of making it the louisville track team on the court really cut into Ray's physicality. With our bigs it wasn't a good idea to try and make the team play fast because they all needed to eat a lot, lift a lot, and run a little. They all lost too much weight in the off season. I'm fine with Donavan's shot being better and his overall offensive transformation is awesome but he isn't playing above the rim anymore. Quite frankly I think we need a new strength coach. You see other schools get guys bigger. Why can't ray and Anas get bigger?

Let's not make excuses for Ray. It's obvious he spent more time in the tattoo parlor than in the weight room over the summer. His lack of physicality and grit make me want to puke! I have never seen a kid his size "play smaller" in the post. And to further compound his issues he appears to have zero heart. Rodney McCray and Derek Smith would have ran him off before he ever played a game.

Spalding has not played well since the Duke game.

That's six games since that one, he's scored a total of 15 pts.

Guys go through tough stretches. I still think he gives this team a lift in March maybe when we least expect it, but no doubt he's going through it these days.

I agree with those that say he needs to make a decision this off season about how good of a player he wants to be. Talent is useless if not applied.

How about the one loose ball under the Virginia basket in the second half. Ray never even thought about getting on the floor, and as a result I believe UVA ended up with the ball. Softer than a baby's ass.

Definitely agree that he is to blame as well, it appears he has not had his heart in it, but the strength and conditioning staff is really dropping the ball on these guys. Come up with a better program that will help them get bigger if what they are doing isn't working. I think Ray would be more likely to practice his long range game and shoot 40% from three next year than gain 30 lbs and get a post presence at this point.

He played better during the stretch when he started. JJ played worse and I think that RP thought that Ray could handle not starting better than Johnson.

Hasn't panned out as JJ isn't giving us much consistently and Spalding has fallen off of the map.

Johnson himself is NOT very helpful...I mean 0 rebounds and can't score either...WTF good is he!

It isn't just Ray. It is all the bigs. They all played as soft as silk. Teams that want to beat the Cards only need to bully them inside. They become a one dimensional jump shooting team when the bigs play soft.
The bigs all have to play with the idea there is going to be contact and most of it is not going to be called. Expect contact, be strong and get your shot off. Pure finesse play underneath ends after HS after you start playing against guys who are your size (or bigger) and may not have your talent.

Bigs are limited offensively - been very little development in that area from JJ/Ray/Mahmoud/Stockman since their arrival.

Mathiang has shown improvement this year but he's 24 years old, we don't have that kind of time with most players!

Still think Spalding is going to have a good showing in the NCAAs. He's in a deep funk though, no doubt.

And as i said padget is soft as water and the only thing he can teach is how to be soft.

Proof is in the pudding.

Depends on where you live. Some water is very hard.

Padgett never played soft so I don't understand why you feel that way. He was a beast for the Cardinals and for Kansas before he transferred.
if you take time to read, I am not the only one with that opinion.
he always played free throw extended and that is what he is paid to teach.
you may think the bigs are taught to mix it up, but I can show you many examples of them being lost and stuck without moves other than that ridiculous twirl and hook,

Ralph was the best thing to happen to the big men, and not having him on the bench shows.

Id love to see him back and padget gone so our bigs can be taught moves in the paint.

you have your opinion and i have facts.

other bigs gain muscle mass and just abuse our bigs, id love to see our head coach be as obsessed with power in the paint as he is with body fat.

But the results of the first half say i am right.

No reason to get snarky, and yes you have provided opinion which is fine. No facts other than what you've already deemed as such in your own mind. That doesn't make it a fact. It's still opinion which I respect. I admire that you're willing to stand by your word no matter how stupid it makes you look. That is very admirable and worth while IMO. I salute you.

At first I was thinking about Chris Farley and I was extremely confused.

Where has Mathiang improved? Hands of stone and bad decision after bad. Great effort guy (I would argue he played harder next to Harrel than he has since), but no skill. Not to be contentious, but I don't see it.

He shot 39% FG his Soph year and averaged 2.6 PPG
His Jr/Sr years he shot 56% FG and 52% FG and a respectable 7.1 PPG both years...

Minutes didn't change.

FT% also has improved 3 straight years, 48%, 59%, 63%

It's not some giant leap but it's better productivity.

I guess he didn't improve from last year - but he's improved from the beginning of his career.

Not really. I find it enjoyable actually. Nothing more fun than watching someone who thinks they know what they're talking about talk when they have no clue what they're talking about. It's pure comedy gold. I appreciate you. A lot.

Every single word huh. OK. LOL. How is your prediction about how great Stockman is going to be working out for you? Believe me, I wanted you to be right, but I think even you with your over the top rants have walked back on that boast.

Look, I mean no disrespect. I'm just having a little fun. If you provide the entertainment for free, then don't get mad at me for cashing in on it. It's just a message board.

lets discuss your predictions..................
oh thats right you are sackless and only drive by threads to belittle anyone with an opinion, then scream trump.
glad most louisville fans are not like you.

stockman is like 7-2 if he was at any other school, I believe he would be starting, but since pitino likes the free throw extended game, it does not fit for a big who has nice paint moves. pitino has wasted 3 years of the young mans life quite honestly and I hope he transfers so he can play college ball as well as opening up a roster spot for a player that pitino will actually use.

on this OPINION BOARD, I make my opinion known before hand, posters like you never make public opinions, but often ridicule those that do. that is funny actually.

but, grantham has been fired, petrino schuffled his staff. mangok is on the bench and now adel will be as well. hopefully he caps their minutes to make them play hungry.

we will win the national championship if he coaches this team and the kids humble themselves. if he does not adjust when it is not working, and if he overplays 3 players, we will be at the spring football game taliking about what could have been.

You are really funny B. All I ever do is give my opinion. I just do it in a way so I don't sound like a complete moron all the time. To each his own.

I love ya man! Can't we all just get along? ;)

Ray's motor has been a topic of conversation even before he suited up for the Cards. He has that poker faced demeanor that Snider has which only adds to the questions. It seems maybe coming off the bench has affected Ray's game. However don't forget that he is still only a sophomore, and that it can take big men a bit longer to fully come into, and realize, their potential.

I think what frustrates us as fans is that we can see that Spalding is gifted with a ton of physical tools with which to succeed, but hasn't seemed able bring it all together quite yet. I know some are tired of hearing it, but Ray still has a lot of upside and I think he will achieve great things as a Card but that he just isn't ready yet.

Well, can't imagine not being ready as a major college sophomore. To me, it seems like basketball has always been easy for him until he realized it was real hard work.

Pitino challenges his players to improve on their weaknesses during the off season. Ray apparently didn't fulfill the coaches wishes. He has to answer the age old question, "How bad do you want it"?

Notice how that question is not needed of Mitchell and Snider?

if you look at the boxscore, he is either the #1 or #2 rebounder every game. his offense needs someone to teach him moves.
