Someone please tell what is going on with the am/fm radio coverage for Louisville? Basketball not getting on 840 anymore when kittens are not playing? Is 790 now doing all the radio game coverage? FM 93.7 is part owned by CAF? What is 680 now, still espn? and did I hear a kitten call in show on 680 the other day? Totally confused .

This is my understanding as far as Clear Channel stations are concerned... If there's ANY overlap in coverage, U of L airs on 790.

Sometimes, a portion of the game gets simulcast on 840. Usually, that happens when most of the LPT game coverage airs well BEFORE the U of L coverage begins. In those instances, 840 carries the entire U of L broadcast when there's no overlap or joins the U of L coverage "in progress" when the LPT coverage is winding down while ours is starting.

But like today, the opposite never happens. I wasn't tuning into 790 all the way 'til the end, but I assume our game coverage ended around 3:00 PM. The LPT coverage started around 2:30 PM. That half hour or so of overlap meant nothing U of L aired on 840. It's a screwed-up policy, but welcome to Clear Channel.

And BTW, I've never heard a Clear Channel mouthpiece ever talk about a formal "policy" in this regard.

ESPN 680 AM and 93.9 FM is still a situation in flux. Prior to the start-up of 93.9, postgame shows were in place for both U of L and LPT. They have no priority contracts to worry about. On the few occasions when both teams play at the same time, the respective hosts of those postgame shows co-host one show. Now with 93.9 in the picture, ESPN has the option to put U of L programming on 93.9 exclusively. Today, ESPN had the broadcast of the U of L baseball game on 93.9, so their U of L basketball postgame show was on 680. Assume that the LPT postgame show is on 680 as I type this.

ESPN will air as much local programming as they can contractually for both schools, although IMO they are cheating more and more toward U of L. One thing you can count on is that nothing LPT will ever air on 93.9...

IMO it doesn't matter anymore. I remember when the switch to blue occurred it was made to be a huge deal. Now with all the methods of watching and listening to games I doubt the advantage of being carried on 84 makes one hill of beans difference.
