QB starter

Michale is the better runner in terms of speed.
Conley is a tad bit better passer I believe. I really like the way he avoided the sack a couple times by spinning out of the path of the rusher. Of course it didnt work when Clemson had three guys on him, lol.

Torn to be honest but I think Michale still gets the nod.
Either way, we got 2 solid QBs that you cant go wrong with either one. I like seeing Conley get a couple series each game.

If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Cunningham has more experience. Conley seems to have better touch on his passes. Both bring unique qualities to the field. I vote to keep playing both moving forward. Of course that also increases the chance 1 or both get hurt too, so that's the only negative.

What type of defense does Virginia throw at you? If they are a speedy defense that throws a lot of blitzes and get in the backfield a great deal then I’m all for Cunningham. Conley doesn’t yet seem to recognize the heat coming after him yet as per Clemson game.

A lot of that pressure from Clemson game was due to getting behind the chains and an ineffective run game.

I don't know much of anything about UVA sans what I've read here. Sounds like they have a solid defense which we'll have to deal with. Other than that, I got nothing.

Cunningham can throw out of the pocket and use his feet better. All in all, just a better vision for oncoming pressure. Whereas I still believe Conley is more accurate and can give us the best option for sustained drives and some chunk yards with his arm.

2nd time this season we debate who starts.

Micale or Evan

Micale is top 10, 20 in efficiency, yet has to play a full game due to injuries.

Evan is a true freshman who doesnt look like one.

I say keep it like it is.
Both are getting significant PT.

I would like to see Cunningham run some Read Option.

All I know is that Satterfield was not happy with the QB play. I think I would default to his judgement and see what happens in practice this week. I think for a bit it seemed the offense was moving more effectively with Conley in the first half but not after halftime.

Clemson had a lot to do with it. But dig this, a coach with his real sights on the top prize doesn’t tolerate inefficiencies due to any opponents. I like that.

I’ll say this - it sure seems like Conley has a longer leash than Cunningham. Not sure why - any ideas?

Probably because he has less experience and is alloted more lattitude. Cunningham is the starter because he has more experience IMO.

I thought Evan looked a little exposed against Clemson. But, that's superior talent and coaching he was up against. Plus, you know, he's a true freshman. I'd stick with Cunningham starting, then keep having Conley come in for a few series.

At the end of the day, Micale has the best numbers, including passing percentage and QB rating. He also brings an added dimension with his ability to run, although as everyone knows, he DOES need to learn to slide.

At this point, I like Micale starting and then bringing in Conley for a couple of series. To me, it keeps the defense off balance because of their different skill sets, and we need all of the help we can get.

I would think that it would be the opposite - unless CSS feels that Conley has more upside. It was curious to me that Cunningham didn’t get in again after the second series in the 3rd quarter. It wasn’t as if Conley was having really any success.

Keep in mind that Cunningham has been a bit banged up too. Maybe he just wasn't 100% ready to go? IDK. Just a guess.

I would think just the opposite. Guy with the most experience should have a longer lease IMO. I think because Satterfield feels that Conley may have a better feel or understanding of what he wants to do. Is my guess.

Normally I would 100% agree, but in this instance without knowing all the facts, I can only assume two things. Either Cunningham wasn't 100% healthy or Conley is being groomed to take over the 1 spot.

Both QB will be better against Virginia. The Clemson line was cutting off the scramble lanes for Cunningham and simply teeing off when Conley was in.

With Cunningham, it would be a different rush style for me. I would rather face Conley as defensive front when the line was collapsing so fast on the edges against Clemson. This won’t or shouldn’t happen against Virginia.

Well, that begs the question: is it broke? There are 2 QBs in this recruiting class. That should tell us what the coaches think.
That’s typical. Transfers and injuries happen. Coaches always look for better QB’s. A quality QB stable is absolutely vital in keeping a programs trajectory going up. Case in point, UK.

CSS said 5 of the 6 sacks were on the QB's holding the ball too long. With Clemson's superior talent and speed the windows were smaller and caused hesitancy. That's where a huge set of kahuna's comes in. This may have gotten the commit of young Mr. Fitzpatrick, old man Dez had 3 receptions for 63 yards, 21 YPC. I like both QB's but CSS is skating on thin ice all year with our serious lack of depth.

I really the CSS is managing injuries. Both are nicked up a bit and I think he is trying to get the most out of this position without putting either QB at risk of further damage by limiting the reps for each. I think if both were 100% we’d go with only one. Just my opinion.

I have to disagree in regards to Micale being injured. Do you really think CSS would play a slightly injured player over a healthy one? Doesn’t that also imply that a banged up cunningham is better than a healthy Conley? I don’t think Cunningham would be in there if he had any limitations in regards to his health. I just think CSS is mixing and matching and then hoping one of them breaks out or the offense suddenly clicks.

CSS has everybody guessing who will start the game including Virginia and that is probably by design. It also probably depends on the weather and I would think if it is heavy rain like they are predicting it would be Cunningham.

Right now I don’t think it’s that difficult to gameplan. Against Micale, you stop the run and forced him to throw in coverage. Against Evan, you bring pressure.

I'll say this regarding ankle injuries, they are notorious for slow full recovery; but you can get 90% recovered fairly quick...as long as there is not additional trauma, full recovery will happen eventually...it could be, and this is what I've thought regarding the early subbing with Conley, that as soon as the ankle shows signs of exacerbation it's time for Cunningham to hit the pine and ice it up

Ineffective run game? Hawkins was first RB in 27 games to go over 100 yards rushing versus Clemson and that included Alabama..twice! It was ineffective QB play that doomed us. But they are still my dogs.

We got behind the chains a bunch. Gaining 7 yards on 2nd and 20 is ineffective. It’s effective if it’s done on 1st and 10. We had limited sustained drives. I ain’t arguing with you but we’ve got to keep in front of the chains and keep the pressure off the line and QB’s.
