Post Game — UNC

Donovan is currently making somewhere around 6 million a year. Wright makes 2.5 million.

Where is the money going to come from, especially if and IMO when Pitino and Jurich win their lawsuits?
I don't disagree with your points, but Ghost is right: that's the type of hire that needs to be made or seriously attempted. Too many of these other names I see mentioned will not energize most of the fanbase. That's what's needed, and it's what happened when Pitino was hired.

Not to mention this time around, you don't know who's really safe to hire...

Donovan is actually making 4M - signed only thru 2020

OK, I read he was making 6 but that's not that important. What is important is where is the money going to come from? Pitino was making over 7 million a year. The next permanent head coach not named Padgett is going to want a hefty raise from wherever they're coming from. Donovan won't take the job for less than what he makes now. Wright will want a raise since he is making just 2.5 million now. Mack is making over 2 million. Yes, a mid major coach is making over 2 million a year. Cronin? Smart? Martin? Pearl? They all make more money currently than we're going to have to offer if Pitino and Jurich win their lawsuits.

Where is the money going to come from to pay for a home run hire?

Where did the money come from to pay pitino 7M? Donations, Suite sales and the like. A home run hire will pay for itself by re-energizing the fan base and donors. Do you honestly think that companies like Brown Forman that dropped their suites at the Yum wouldn't be back if Donovan or Wright was the hire? Donovan would of course want - and be able to negotiate - a raise from his OKC gig but UofL has something that the pros could NEVER offer him - job security and longevity. Louisville has had two coaches (both HOF) in the last 45 years - that's a pretty good selling point.

I honestly don't believe that Donovan is an NBA coach at heart. He just took the money because it got old not being able to sell out a 14K arena after two titles. Wright would be more difficult IMO - he seems like a Philly guy and I'm not sure that the money would sway him but like another poster said - "make him say no".

Absolutely. Can you imagine the fall out if you hire someone like Marshall and then he gets dinged by the ncaa? At least if you hire a Donovan and something shakes loose - you are much more able to keep the fan base energized and behind him.

I see threads about who our next coach "should" be but its pretty simple if you ask me...

Billy D isn't coming...not to Louisville and not back to the college game right now.

Ask Jay Wright - its a long shot and he's going to say "No" but you ask him just to be sure.

Go get Chris Mack and give him a 10 year contract and be done with this.
Why isn't Donovan coming? I mean it has to be the right offer but are you seriously telling me that if UofL offered 6-8 years at 6M guaranteed he would pass on it? He's making 4M a year only guaranteed thru 2020 and he has an excellent chance to be canned at the end of this year. I would give odds that he doesn't see the end of his contract with the Thunder and he's not a shoe in to get another nba job. Mark my words - Donovan will be back coaching college ball - it'll either be with us, or somebody else.

You might be right. I expect that Donovan will be in the league at least another year or 2 though....plus, he's so close with Rick that I can't imagine he would take it. I might be wrong, UL could go after him hard and we all know money talks but I would just be shocked if Billy D were out of the NBA within the next 2 years.

For me, there's just too much smoke for the "Chris Mack to Louisville" fire to think there's not something to that and I think thats great for Louisville. Like I said, I would make Jay Wright say no, but other than that I mean Chris Mack is an absolute home run hire. I wanted Mack to replace Rick before the scandal and if ULs able to get him now that will be a great first step to solidifying the program and getting back on solid ground.

If Jurich were still here, I believe that Jay Wright would be realistic. He might not have come, but I would at least consider it realistic. Jurich had an amazing reputation in terms of someone to work for, someone who would support you and give you what you need to succeed. I agree with the "make Jay say no" approach, but I'm far less optimistic about it.

Same here. It was a huge blunder fail to fire Jurich. If he were still the AD, I would feel a whole lot better about the future.

Donovan is THE hire that might get the donations rolling back in but none of that is going to happen with this FBI investigation hanging over the program. I hate to say it but what we see is what we got for the foreseeable future IMO. This might be the last winning season we see for some time.

That’s why you offer the guaranteed contract. It’s what uahk did after the Sutton scandal to attract pitino.

That's fine. You don't relax your standards and ambitions because you no longer have Jurich at the controls. That's what the clown show wants you to do.

You go for the same coaches and offer the same pay that you would have under Jurich & Co. Let the clown show tell fans they're not up to the challenge...

I'm just a spectator in Morgantown WV with no role in any of this. But I agree with your overall point.

If Donovan comes to Louisville to coach Ill gladly perma ban myslef....and then probably create a different account under a different name. :)

Id be tickled to death with that hire, but I know he is NOT coming here. Some of you sound worse than a UK fan.

You're perfectly in line with all of the other small thinkers that litter this landscape.
