Pitino Lite says "bring on the NBA!"...

Would love an NBA team in the state. I would probably drive up for a game two or three times a season

Put it in Lexington, play it in Rupp. Move kitties back to share Memorial with the women. Screw the sweaty car salesman and his opinions!
100% agree. If Calipari is so 'for' an NBA team, then let them locate in Lexington. I noticed he said the NBA in LOUISVILLE would be wonderful. I doubt he would feel the same way if that NBA team was playing in Lexington. I know he was all for the NBA in Memphis, but he knew Memphis wasn't his destination job. I suspect he would have a very different point of view regarding the NBA in his backyard.

Being from Memphis and living through the city trying for NFL but getting an NBA franchise. Gotta admit it was pretty cool and still is. Regular season not much different then a coll game. But a playoff game is intense. Only logistical and logical place would be Louisville for a PRO team.

It would work better in Northern Kentucky than here, the NBA is garbage.

Being a Louisville native that lives in Dayton, I think No Ky is the right place. You'd draw from a pretty large Cincy metropolitan area, all the way up to the Dayton area, south to Lexington and Louisville. Far enough from Indy to not worry about competing with them for audience.

I'm not an NBA fan myself, but if KY were to have a team, this seems like a good spot. Not competing with UL.

As we all know an NBA team would gradually impact UofL basketball negatively.

I hear some UofL fans claim they would like to have an NBA team in town. I don't see it happening. But, I ask those UofL fans this question....

Could you truly be interested in an NBA team that features multiple UK players? A team like New Orleans would be one to potentially move to Louisville. Got it in you to pull for Cousins and Davis?

What's the population difference in Lexington and Louisville?

I root pretty hard for the timberwolves with Dieng. You let this rivalry impact your life entirely too much

Move it to Lexington and I am all for it I would never go to a game no matter how good they were. I would love the negative impact it would have on sUcK though. If it would do the same damage it has done to The University of Memphis it would be fun to watch.

Don't know, don't care. If your coach is so in love with the thought of a NBA team in Kentucky, then he should be lobbying for a NBA team in Lexington. I don't think that's unreasonable since he's the one saying it would be great. I hope it happens. In Lexington.

Don't lecture me.

I'm speaking on behalf of the UofL fans population, not me specifically.

And comparing a guy like Dieng to a guy like Cousins is a laughable analogy, showing how out of touch you are with my point/question.

I'll try to simplify that for you. Dieng is an admirable person that spoke highly of Rupp Arena's lore, whereas Cousins is an absolute jarhead that put a flagrant foul on a UofL player.

Sure is apples to oranges man. Good post.

Wonder if Pitino was approached for his opinion?

"Elite program", my a$$...

My point was, regardless of the player, I don't let the fact that a team has a player that was once a Louisville cardinal keep me from pulling for that team. Not that dieng is a pos or anything close to that. Same goes for terry rozier and any other player in the League that is a Louisville alum

I personally don't think it will happen in Louisville but I think one thing we can all agree on is it sure as hell ain't happening in Lexington. NKY maybe but still probably not

Why? Calipari wants the NBA in Kentucky. He could give a bleeping rip where. The target is Louisville because it's a bigger city and from a business standpoint, makes more sense.
Why does everything he says offend you guys so much?

Because I don't like him. I never have and I never will. Has nothing to do with UofK. I didn't like his smug punk attitude when he was coaching UMass. Sure wish John Cheney could have gotten a hold of his scared ass way back then. I disliked his whining even more at Memphis, and now his 'dream job' is to turn everything he touches into NBA gold. Let him go coach the NBA for all I care, but the state of Kentucky is a COLLEGE state. There is no room for pro anything other than maybe baseball or soccer.

Every UofK friend I have cringed the night he made the claim that draft night was the most important night in UofK history. That shows everyone where his loyalties lay. He doesn't give two flips about UofK's history. He only wants to push his agenda and nothing more.

I actually don't have that much against Pitino Lite personally. One of my few LPT friends agreed with me yesterday: he's a great recruiter and psychologist for 18-year olds. Beyond that, he's not much more than you or me. The guy's making millions when he can barely handle the Xs and Os. Good for him.

Obviously, most U of L fans can't stand the guy, and I wanna associate something I'm strongly against--the NBA in Louisville--with Pitino Lite. Whatever gets people firmly against an NBA franchise here.

State already has a team with pro players. Some time that team works. Some time it doesn't.

I can actually appreciate that. Kinda how I feel about Tom Crean

Because he is an asshat. Northern KY/Cincy is a much better choice and I hope it ends up there. Maybe Cal could move the NBA lite team he coaches in Lexington up there.

There is no way the UK administration would let a NBA team wind up in Lexington. All the temptations of the NBA and what comes with it that close to campus would push Sandy Bell over the edge. She must be working 80 hours a week already.

I 1000 percent agree w/this about Cal.

Because you would lose some corporate ticket holders and sponsorship to the NBA team. That is why Cal is for the NBA in Louisville but he wouldn't like it if they put it in Lexington.

Selling newspapers? Is that still a thing?

Speaking of ancient history, anybody remember the Cincinnati Royals? I don't, but my old dentist about 10 years ago told me a story about how he went to a Royals game to get Oscar Robertson's autograph. They couldn't make it in the Northern KY/Cincinnati area. Seems unlikely a new team in that area would do any better.

Are you frickin kidding me. University of kensucky graduates MAYBE one basketball player a season. Sometimes none. Some kids play there and accumulate 4 credit hours and leave. Yea nice work force there. We travel South all the time. You say you are from Kentucky and they ask well you don't look like a hillbilly. We usually say no we're from Louisville. Most apologize. LOL

Graduating three this year

Since you guys pay your basketball so called coach $7 million ($2 million more than we pay ours) and the fact that you guys get $2 for each $1 UofL gets from our wonderful state government speaks volumes about who is being successful at educating their students and who isn't. The uahkay faithful are excellent at flapping their jasws but very short on producing ANY results. Our scandals are shameful but there is also the media to consider that wants to destroy the University of Louisville. You should remember where all of those tax dollars are coming from - the Metro area of Louisville. Without the city of Louisville uahkay and the rest of the state would be bankrupt, period. Our graduation rates are higher than yours anyway so why don't you STFU.

I don't know the exact number but the actual number that the university pays coach cal is nowhere near 7 mil. Most of that comes from endorsements, marketing, and broadcasting.

Edit: 400,000 is what his base pay from university is

Just listened to this one-hour podcast from the Bob Valvano radio show on Friday. Bob has Mike Pratt in studio talking by phone to Dan Issel about an NBA team in Louisville. And believe it or not, playing in a renovated Freedom Hall.

LINK

Probably just old hacks reminiscing about the bygone days of Louisville and the ABA. But you never know how irrational people can be. Hell, we built an arena we could never afford...

I heard part of Dan Issel's comments yesterday and I had the same thought that you just expressed. Dan would be just like all of the other lessington hacks if it was uahkay basketball being threatened. Yeah, go ahead and put it in a "renovated Freedom Hall". What a total joke.

Does anyone actually think a renovated freedom hall would be bad for the city of Louisville?
