My daughter's Spalding women's soccer team had an improbable Cinderella run through the SLIAC tournament last week winning three games in five days in three states and putting Spalding in the Division 3 National Tournament for the first time; to that point I think Spalding had only made the conference semis once. They did it by winning 2-1 at home over the 5 seed, stunning the #1 seed on their home field who to that point had only given up two goals in 9 league games 3-0 and winning 1-0 Saturday in Greenville, IL on a shot from nearly 35 yards out with 1 minute left in the 2nd OT. I guess you could call that the soccer equivalent to winning on a halfcourt shot but it was the most dramatic thing I have seen involving my kids in probably 500+ games between them.
