I love this program. They've got some growing to do over the next 2 months.I haven't given up.There seems to be a huge vacuum on leadership.I hope they get it going soon.I've purposely steered away from specifics.I think there's room to improve everywhere.Growing up is hard sometimes...

I think we were spoiled by last year's success. Of the three major sports, I honestly thought baseball would be the toughest. Even with returning starters like Funk, there is no guarantee that you can replicate the numbers from last year. These games will hopefully make us stronger.

We're only losing games to CWS caliber teams. And complaining about that.

We've pretty much arrived...

A bit concerned about Funkhouser. I hope he didn't make a mistake by coming back. Also, that direct hit on the hands while Solak attempted to bunt had to be extraordinarily painful. We were always told to " pinch " the bat while bunting. Apparently you don't have the directional control that you have by grasping the bat.

Well, the thread title doesn't fit my post.Just trying to have a discussion, since the discussion is now limited to the few. What's wrong with not being happy about our team not playing clean baseball?

I hope I'm wrong, but I've had that type of injury .It might be a finger. If it is,it's probably gonna involve a fracture.

Absolutely nothing - it's one of the things that fans who understand the game discuss. It has nothing to do with the opponent.

They announced no fracture for Solak. We'll see today. Truthfully, I'm becoming more concerned about McKay and his confidence at the plate. He's a better hitter than he's shown. Hopefully he will be coming around shortly. I think he has the ability to be the best 2nd year player in all of college baseball.

While McKay is one of the few that I feel are capable it is just too hard to be a two way player. After getting rocked his last outing, part of his focus has now got to be on pitching, especially with Funk struggling. The more time he spends on pitching takes away from his time working on hitting and so on.

I hope to see this group grow some in this series, starting today.Go Cards!!
Agree and I'm betting we win this series.

We are spoiled for sure. If I remember correctly we did not lose a series during the entire regular season last year and that's ridiculous.

*Correction, we did lose 1 series last year during the regular season. It was our opening series of the year against Arkansas St.

After shaky 1st inning by McKay, cards found their bats in a big way. Tiberi with a bases loaded 3 run double. Ray hit a HR as did Fitch. Solak is day to day with no fracture, just a bad bruise.

Nothing wrong, but you have to consider your competition. If we win the UVA series, we will be 4-5 against UVA, Ole Miss, and Miami, with two of those three road series. One game below .500 would be about right.

And that's with Funk below par, an easily identifiable issue going forward. If you can play .500 ball against teams of that caliber at a neutral site with one of your weekend guys struggling, that ain't bad...

Zipp,I'm ok with losing.I really am.Admittedly,I didn't get to see any of the Ole Miss series.Your point is well taken.I just get bothered sometimes by the way these guys lose.Tbs,I saw something in this team today I've been waiting to see this season. They grew as a team today, fighting thru that 2 run 1st by the Cavs.I'm an impatient sort. It's all good.

I heard this comment the other night, they may lose more games this year but be a better team overall.

I feel really bad for Funk and Coach at the moment because I'm afraid a reality check is coming soon. We're hearing questions why McKay isn't the Friday starter which probably has cost us a game this weekend. But the last thing Coach wants to do is damage Funk's confidence anymore than it already is.

I'd like to see Funk himself step up and ask to be moved. Takes pressure off himself and everyone else. The whole world knows that the ace on the staff is McKay...

zipp this post is spot on. Funk is in a, well, "funk". And it does appear to be a mental thing rather than something physical. Plus, it appears that McKay is regaining his confidence at the plate. Coach Mac will do what's best for the long term health of the program as he always has. With the expertise of Coach Williams I do believe, at the end of the day, Funk will be brought around to be the pitcher we all (and the Dodgers) think him to be. Whether or not McKay is moved to Friday in the rotation we'll all know sooner rather than later as the season is approaching the middle portion of the schedule.

Cory had a little slide at the plate as well,if you can call it that.Probably just coming back to what would be considered a normal batting average. His ability to take the pitch and do something with it,go the other way, makes him an even harder out.

Also, coach's shaking up the lineup a bit, moving Fitch in,Taylor down and putting Tiberi behind a red hot Hairston has provided what amounts to a second tier leadoff and 2 hole hitter. It looked good yesterday.Hairston is really seeing the ball well.He hit some bbs yesterday at the Cavs ss.

It was indeed fun. I left early Friday because it was so cold for us and the kids. Yesterday was perfect. Hopefully the rain stays away enough today.
It was colder than a well digger's hide Friday for sure.Funny, watching folks move with the sun during the game. After the sun went down,it was brutally cold.

I think they'll get it in today, and I hope the Cards grow a little more in the process.Family obligations will keep me away today, but I'll have a radio on somewhere.Get em home!!

Go Cards!!!

I always thought it would be a good idea to move Funk to the Saturday game just because of having two lefties, McKay and Harrington back to back. While a team may struggle against McKay, by the time they see Harrington on Sunday, they may have made an adjustment. However, Harrington pitched pretty well lately.
