Oscar stays, but kitties take a “sharpe” hit

As expected, Oscar is projected as a mid to late 2nd round pick. Sharpe is a lottery pick. With the NIL deals, Oscar will make more in college than playing pro ball this coming year.

Lol - You mean to tell me that G league guys don’t make 2M per?

Unless I missed something, they still have to work out his foreign student visa situation before he can receive any NIL money.

Its just the wrong stance for BBN to take for worshipping and loving Oscar and hating Sharpe.

Oscar's back in Lexington because its the best financial decision for him - not because he loves UK. If he had Sharpe's ability, future in the NBA and 1st round/lottery guarantee - there would be a Back to The Future style tire track fire out of Lexington behind Oscar.

You're worshipping a kid for doing the only thing he could really do and what was best for him and then absolutely destroying a kid for doing the exact same thing.

Oscar is an outstanding college basketball player but with him staying another year and trying to improve his outside shot will only hurt his rebounding stats....which he is known for. He should move on an be the next Charles Barkley....did Charles make it in the NBA as a 3 point shooter.....I think not

Oscar is good for college basketball. Sharpe was totally mishandled or mismanaged by Cal. He didn’t read the room. They struggle next year he will be next to leave.

Despite his numbers @uk in 1yr he’s no where near the athlete or player Barkley was!

Actually, the comparison of Oscar to Charles is most appropriate, and Oscar’s dominance in the paint and his on the court energy are most reminiscent of Barkley.

Charles had an edge over Oscar in terms of his offensive skills and abilities, but remember he enjoyed an uninterrupted career at Auburn under Sonny Smith where he was the beneficiary of outstanding coaching. Conversely, Calipari would have a very difficult time taking any credit for the development of Oscar from the time he left WVU until now.

The only comparison that makes it appropriate is the position of PF and effort! For one Oscar is 6’9/Barkley was 6’5 on a good day!
Barkley was a freak athlete who could take a rebound from one end out running a lot of guards for a dunk on the othe, and he had range on his jump shot;Oscar is a avg athlete at best and relies on his size and positioning, and he’d be lucky to score anywhere outside of the paint let alone take it coast to coast; Barkley was a top 5 pick as a JR; Oscar will be lucky to be drafted in the late first round or second round as a 5th yr Sr;

If Calipari does let Oscar play outside on the perimeter more, he will not be nearly as dominant as he was this year.

The squid is just buying time to pull together the NIL money from the fat cats. Especially now that's it's legal. Rumor is he's going to be filmed as a jockey doing commercials for Keeneland.

I don’t mind NIL but I hope Louisville never talks about how much players are making. It just adds another layer of craziness to fandom. I don’t care what they make but when you start hearing the actual amounts it will get ugly for those that don’t perform.

Wrong BigLou; Barkley was renown for his rebounding, the exact same talent that Oscar exhibited in his POY performance at UK. Size matters, but it does not necessarily apply to great rebounders, as Wes Unseld was only 6’6” tall and was Rookie of the year and MVP in his first pro year in the NBA for rebounding and his patented outlet pass.

There is a reason that Calipari and the UK alumni association is making sure there is at least $800K of NIL funds to keep him in Lexington, as he is a one of a kind player right now in college basketball.

Barkley was known as the "round mound of rebound" at Auburn.

How am I wrong ? The only thing I left out which I thought was common knowledge “captain obvious“was that they both great rebounders!
Yes there’s a reason why he is coming back it’s because he isn’t a NBA type athlete and a second round pick. So, the NIL endorsement is guaranteed and comparable to a second round pick but a second round pick isn’t guaranteed a contract!
Another year he might make it to the lower half of the first round!
He has no where near the upside Barkley had!
Oscar is more of a Tyler Hansbrough type player but Hansbrough did it for 4yrs, and Oscar has only 2yrs to do so!
Just about every UofL basketball fan knows about the great Wes Unseld and if not a simple search will tell you!

Actually Mr Obvious; I went to school with Wes and I was in the Seneca HS gym witnessing the countless hours that Coach Wright worked with him on rebound positioning. By the way, that started when he was just a sophomore in HS, and long before he was recognized for his amazing skill set.

Oscar his still playing college; it’s premature to predict his level of career accomplishments.

Haha 😂! No one cares that you went to school with Wes Unseld!!! Besides what does that have anything to do with the initial point ?
Oscar has only has 1yr left of college eligibility! Unless he all of a sudden becomes a great athlete then his celling for the NBA draft is middle to end of the first round a maybe the second!

It was my response to your earlier intentional insult towards me about “every UL fan knowing about Wes”; my knowledge was uniquely a firsthand experience, and not just like “every UL fan”.

And you are so knowledgeable of NBA basketball that Oscar will not be a future 1st round NBA draftee In 2023? As I understand Oscar is still scheduled to participate in the NBA trials, and I will not rule out the possibility that with such a “less than overwhelming 2022 draft”, that some NBA GM elevate Oscar’s draft position to the first round.

Ha! You’re way off of the path now! The initial point was a Barkley &Oscar comparison and you brought Unseld into the convo for some reason!
It’s not a insult to point out that Wes Unseld was a great player and his status in the history of the UofL and the nba is well known by just about any UofL fan!
Just because you went to HS and watched him practice doesn’t give you a ”unique“ perspective! I went to school with C. Redman and played some football with him, but that doesn’t mean that I have a unique perspective of how a QB!
I said “captain obvious” in regards to the fact that you pointed out the obvious that both Barkley and Oscar were great rebounders!
It doesn’t take a lot of knowledge to find that a majority of projected drafts have him as a 2nd round pick and a slight possibility of him to slide into the 1st round if he developed a outside shot, butt if he does go out on the the 3pt line he will lose some of his low box effectiveness! Since his positioning is a great part of his rebounding numbers not his athletic ability! Which was the feedback he received already from the nba! He isn’t going to the nba “trials”/combine
The outrageous price that uk has given him is guaranteed and the second round pick is not guaranteed!

No the comparison is about 2 players who both were prolific rebounders, and you brought up the difference in their height, which I pointed out does not necessarily dictate great rebounders ….. Wes was just the example of another great rebounder who was not particularly tall for an NBA center.

The comparison between Oscar and Charles is most appropriate period.

No you just picked one of the examples that I had listed amongst several reasons why they are different, and ran with Unseld as a example because of your “unique perspective“!
Barkley and Oscar are 2 totally different types of players!
The only thing that makes them in comparison is there position of PF and their ability to rebound !
Thats where the appropriate comparison ends period! 🤣
