It is one game and they played well. They may even win Saturday but I doubt it. It will probably be 5-6 double digits losses because they get Duke, NC, Wake, Virginia and Clemson.

Now if they find a way to win 3-4 of those start sweating or rejoicing depending on which side you are on. Confidence start growing then who knows because after that it gets easier. That version last night can win games in a down ACC.

They have played competitively away from home against TX,IU,VaT, and Miami. They have 2 players running extremely hot. If they add 1 more they could beat a team better than Miami and snowball their way to a few more wins than expected.

Fans against it are gonna have to hope they faceplant immediately. I'm not predicting it but 10+ wins isn't out of reach.

Sure, he could be let go in Spring. But he could survive and brace yourselves. This could go beyond that.

It's fascinating.

Is this win able to be duplicated or was it just another aberration is the big question.

They don't win without James red hot shooting. Can he hit 5-6 from 3 every game? Will the team shoot 44% from 3 and 49% from the field every game? Will they keep getting more assists (17) than TOs (12) when they average 13TO to 12 assists? Can they shoot 88% from the FT line while the opponent goes 53% that usually shoots 78%?

Was this just another game of the shots falling so that they appear better than normal like the WKU and Clemson games last year?

Their margin for error is so small. The defense overall was still quite bad. If they played tenacious defense every single game, which should be the easiest part of the game to do consistently, they'd have double digit wins already but they don't. So many questions.

I don’t know about the rest of the fans but it will go on without me. Football, baseball only, I’ll never watch another Louisville game if Payne is retained. Imagine retaining him and doesn’t even have any recruits?

Last night's effort was enough to rescue me from the Koron Zone of fandom, at least temporarily. I saw improved ball and player movement. The number of assists were up. BHH is steady as a rock. Still too many turnovers, but that improved in the 2nd half. Kaleb Glenn got minutes and played well.

Curtis needs to have his feet square and in balance before he launches a three. Much like KP did in his playing days. Being open is not enough.

The guards need to be more mindful about floor balance in order to prevent run outs by the other team.

It is long awaited start. Looking forward to the Wolfpack on Saturday.

The Miami win was Payne's biggest win as UofLs coach. However much like the loss to Texas, it means nothing if they don't build on it and actually start winning more games. More close losses shouldn't be good enough.

Sadly the answer to all of your questions is - no.

I pull for them to lose every game! If he wins a game every ten they will just let the bum hang around!

Could the win against Miami only confirm the fact that we were giving too many minutes to some players in earlier games? Now with all the injuries, we really don't have many choices. Its not better coaching but some players having to respond.
Excellent point. Glenn went from not seeing the floor, or barely seeing it, to a 20 min player and you can see that kid is bringing something to the table, for example.

I still don't understand starting Miller 1st and 2nd half, only to pull him.... Did he have a great practice? That's the one thing I loved about Pitino. He would let you know what guys were improving and which guys were underperforming in practices.

This staff is pretty secretive. I am only guessing that decision might have been more about the benefit of slowing down Johnson just a little, or maybe taking a little pressure off him. He seemed to have a breakout vs TX coming off the bench, maybe not as effective at this stage of his development as a starter. Will be interesting to see who starts Saturday.

I believe the shortened rotation is helping more than anything else and is allowing guys to get in a better rhythm/chemistry. I don't want to see anyone get injured, but Tre White sitting out has actually helped. His play really started to drop off. White having to sit out "may" actually help his game when he returns as well.

A very nice win against Miami. Sometimes (most of the time) the analysis is really simple... makes and misses. Can they string 2 in a row with a win against NC State? Keatts will apply pressure. Burns Jr. v. BHH inside should be good. State has 3/4 solid guards that can shoot it.

This team has told on themselves multiple times this year and shown in spurts that they can play and have some talent. Inconsistent play with questionable/inexperienced coaching at best. The current roster (healthy) should be 12-3 - 10-5 at worst with this non-conference schedule. This thing was laid out for KP to get in the range of 12 to 18 wins and to potentially be a borderline NCAA tournament team.

There are several potential wins (less analytics) still left on the schedule. I predicted at least 12 wins with a good portion of those in the non-conference. The data says they drop this next game against State and get back to business as usual... inept and lost. If (a really big IF) KP gets to 11/12 wins with injuries, I think he gets a 3rd year. Very intriguing.

i would like to see a full game where we play good 3 point defense. we played better in the second half against Miami.

the 3 point and transition defense are pretty bad.

Not a comparison most want to make, but I heard someone yesterday comment that the shorter bench is more like Calipari runs his team by season's end. Considering his connection to Payne, sounds plausible.

If by some miracle, Payne could raise his X-and-O coaching level to Calipari's and then start recruiting better, the option to give him more time will be the right one...

He didn't shorten the bench by choice. He ran out of players.

I have hammered away at KP this year. There is too much bad to expect a turnaround. With that said I am very interested to see how they play tomorrow. Confidence and team chemistry is a weird thing maybe they finally bought in.

As much as we all want a change it is absolutely in the best interest of the program for KP and crew to win.

Our program has fallen so far down that some posters think going 15-15 is good.
To get to 15-15 they have go 9-6 the rest of the way in the ACC. Hard to argue that isn’t progress. Hard to argue players talent level. Hard to argue coaching is awful. Rock bottom the climb is steep.

Then go a step further in fantasy land. They all come back with key transfers and he lands Knox. There is life at that point.

The next 6 games either finishes it or gives it new life.

I don’t see this happening but 15-15 happens he will be back.

I agree. If KP finishes 15-15 this season, he’s back and it will be hard to argue there is no progress.

Side note: That’s not saying that 15-15 is good. I’m not sure I’ve seen anyone post that 15-15 is “good.” Not in this thread anyway.

I agree with Post being blocked because I have had several post blocked and they weren’t in support of KP.

I phrased that wrong I do not support post being I support the guy complaining about post being blocked.

Like you said, it would be a miracle.

Here is the core question the powers have to answer, is this team under KP in the tournament in year 3? Is there a path with the right additions and subtractions to be a NCAA tournament team?

If they continue to play like they have the last 2 games there is a path.

Ask that question again at the end of the season. A long way to go...

There has always been a path and that was to see how we fared in ACC play... Couldn't really let KP go before that without saying he had a fair chance. Also with Jay Wright shutting down any chance of returning to coach led this to seeing how the rest of the season will play out. With our injuries, I have to say KP is doing better than what I expected.
