They're on a 6 game win streak, and beat Vandy at Vandy. They've got a player averaging almost 25 ppg. He shoots over 50% from 3 point land. That's insane. Jaylin Walker is his name.
Who said anything about being worried? We're only pointing out that these so-called cupcakes aren't really cupcakes. They are good teams even with the tag of mid-major next to their names.Wow. I just can’t believe it has come to this.. when we have to be concerned about the Vermont’s, Lipscombs and now Kent State. Even in the heyday of Denny, when we the Cardiac Cards and seem to have a habit of playing to the level of the competition, we didn’t fret and worry about these caliber teams. We’re the Louisville freaking Cardinals!!

KS averages 82 so you're right. Defense is what will win the game if the Cards are to win. These tough games will make us better in March. I thought we played ugly vs our last opponent but our defense was good since they average 86 points a game and we held them to 68. That will be the difference against Kent State.
GO CARDS - BEAT EVERYBODY!!! God Bless America!!!
College basketball as a whole is different now....if you cant see that then I dont know what to tell you. There are a lot of quality teams out there in all conferences and anyone can be beat on any given night. This isn't college football.Wow. Tell me how it is any different than 2 years ago when we played Wichita St, Baylor, Purdue, Long Beach and was worried about Old Dominion who was 2-0 at the time? Or maybe last year, George Mason, seton Hall, Indiana, Memphis, Siena and a Grand Canyon team who was 9-3 at the time.College basketball as a whole is different now....if you cant see that then I dont know what to tell you. Denny Crum used to say that on any given night, any one team can beat any other team. Probably more likely to happen now than in his day.Wow. The mid major schools are vastly improved over the days of Denny Crum. The best way to judge your competition by their past performance such as their schedule and NCAA record. Lipscomb was a solid team with good wins on the road and a good NCAA tournament experience and had all 5 starters back.
Just curious, but did you find RPI rankings from past seasons in December of those seasons,or was it season ending RPI?This subject came up yesterday and I checked RPI rankings. The last three years under Pitino, the teams on our preconference schedule averaged about 180. The teams on this year's schedule average around 150.
My question is are basketball schedules made up years in advance like football? I would think this schedule was put together before Mack was named coach?Just curious, but did you find RPI rankings from past seasons in December of those seasons,or was it season ending RPI?
I'm sure it was.I'm not sure that you can ever predict what some of the mid majors will look like. Looks like it's one of those years where the season ticket holders got lucky. My question is are basketball schedules made up years in advance like football? I would think this schedule was put together before Mack was named coach?
The schedule is a top heavier this year. Pitino often avoided top competition but you play against good mid-majors.Before anyone dubs Kent State the "Boston Celtics" or presents this preconference schedule as NBA caliber...

A little better?...Yes. A lot better?...No.
I don't know how easy it is to search RPI rankings in prior years at intermittent points. What I included was EOY or YTD 2018-19.Just curious, but did you find RPI rankings from past seasons in December of those seasons,or was it season ending RPI?
Fair enough.I'm happy that it's turned out to be competitive for the team and entertaining for the crowds.Nor am I sure why that matters. Some teams go up, some teams go down. It's only a bias if the conference teams on U of L's schedule are consistently overrated early in the season or this year's opponents are underrated. And we have no way to analyze that...
