2. NBA weighing several playoff scenarios
With each passing day, it seems like the possibility of the NBA (and the NHL) finishing its regular season grows less and less likely -- especially if they want to maximize a potential postseason. However, the good news is that the NBA is reportedly "very determined to have a champion" at the conclusion of this season, and they're open to several different ways of crowning that champion.
The league is considering a bunch of different possible playoff scenarios if/when they're able to return to action sometime in the coming months. Our Sam Quinn helped highlight some possibilities being floated around:
And, honestly, maybe NBA fans could look at a Christmas opener next year as a positive? There's been talk of the league shifting its schedule around anyway, so maybe this could be the perfect opportunity to make that happen from here on out. In any case, if you're in immediate dire need for live basketball in any shape or form, I've got something you might be interested in: NBA players from all 30 teams will be participating in a televised NBA 2K tournament that starts on Friday. - A single-elimination tournament is likely off the table
- Multiple three-game series throughout a shortened postseason
- Having one host city to avoid travel concerns
- Potential host cities: Las Vegas, Atlantic City, Hawaii, Louisville, Orlando, the Bahamas
- Late June/early July is currently viewed as the best-case scenario for start date
- If postseason finishes in late summer, next season might not start until Christmas
