I have always had a good opinion of IU and their fan base until now. Since an IU alum is in the middle of this mess and one of the main characters I decided to go over to the IU page on Rivals and read some of their post. They are as classless and idiotic as sUcK fans, they are saying things that aren't even true and they are convincing each other that they are true.
It is so funny to read their post and see how uninformed they are, they are really dangerous. They are like ESPN who believes you are guilty until proven innocent. It is ashame that none of these people remember the Duke rape case.

Dam. HoosierJoe lost it. That guy is so worked up over this....he should discover free porn on the internet or something. Can't imagine living in a city where you hate the home team so badly. Dude needs to leave for the sake of his mental health.

They do sound desperate over there. They want it to be true so badly. LOL. It won't be long before IU ranks behind Wabash in respectability.

Most IU fans still love Bobby Knight. Understand that and you will understand most IU fans. I had enough of them 30 years ago. They are not our friends.

When some of you travel to Bloomington you'll see pretty quickly why we ended the series with them. Wait til you see the class they display at the games with this book coming out. I imagine it will be the worst experience Pitino and your players have ever had

It's really bizarre. I never "thought about" IU one way or the other prior to this. I kind of like watching them play. I had no idea they hated us so much, but I got to admit I don't cross the river often.

You all are starting to sound like Penn State fans, balming everybody and everything, rationalizing every little thing thats said in the media. No body knows the truth yet, virtually everybody in the country is taking shots at UofL over this, just how it is with scandals.

My life would have been a lot better if I had never heard of Katina Powell. Her revelations (or more likely her delusions) have caused me to wake up every morning since last Friday waiting for the other shoe to drop in the so-called prostitution/UofL former staff-member accusations.

It appears no one knows the truth including Powell, especially book author Dick Cady. Cady claims to be a reluctant author that refers to this endeavor (writing the book) as such, "I didn't want to take part in the project. I saw it as an awful lot of work involving a lot of time and an awful lot of bullsh-".

He initially turned it down but agreed to write the book after a request from (Indiana Business Journal owner/chairman) Mickey Maurer, "he sent me an email". After that email and most likely some serious cash, the elderly Cady agreed to write the book despite some "serious problems".

After reading Powell's journals and analyzing the Powell information in depth, Cady contacted Maurer and asked, "You sure you want to do a book like this". Maurer was emphatic that Cady should continue. At that point in the interview with C-J reporter Jeff Greer, Cady claims that he spent about five months verifying the information in the journals and "some of it was difficult and some of it wasn't". This is where Cady's credibility takes a hit.

He has already admitted that he didn't want to do the "bullsh--" necessary to write a book like this, but now claims that "Every time that we went after a fact, we either found it, or found something resembling it." The "we" in this saga is IBJ Publisher Patricia Keiffner who according to Cady talked to Powell at least 50 times.

Keiffner is the former Lexington Chamber of Commerce General Manager working for Maurer and the energy behind the book. Cady claimed to have talked to Powell "10 to 15 times". That would indicate that Keiffner was verifying the information in the Powell journals and passing it on to Cady.

Problematic in this scenario is the fact that no one - outside of Powell - named in this sordid affair admits to having any meaningful contact with Keiffner or Cady. How were they able to "find the facts" is a question that they are unwilling to answer.

My guess is that Powell was the originator and verifier of all the salacious content of her journals. Perhaps the most suspicious character in this tale is Maurer, the ultra-rich IU benefactor and a person known to use his money to manipulate events. He has IU officials on speed-dial and has given major bucks to the school.

Several questions about his involvement in this case are worthy of investigation: how did Powell and Maurer get together? Why did Maurer create an LLC Publishing company for this one book? Why did Maurer first contact IU officials when contemplating publishing the book? Why dedicate an editor (Keiffner) full-time to a project with such dubious credibility and questionable money-making potential?

I also have serious questions about Cady's veracity and Keiffner's motivation. Another question is why Powell, who said she is "in this for the money," would agree to only 10 percent of the net profit. This kind of deal would indicate that Maurer didn't expect to make much money, but wanted to insure that he recouped his investment.

This entire allegation smells like a locker room after a four-hour practice. Every time we try to verify some of the claims we turn over a rock and another slithery creature crawls away. I don't know how this is going to end, but if I was Katina Powell I would be very concerned. I doubt she makes enough money on the book to pay her anticipated attorney fees.

I graduated from IU but have lived in the Metro area most of my life. I support both teams. I rarely post but monitor threads on both sites. I see these types of posts on both sites - stating the other fans are a bunch of classless idiots. There are good fans and idiots in both camps. These types posts only serve to reinforce the opinions of the idiot groups in both camps and are pointless.

Well there is mass transit.

This is not an IU Story at All. The only think this has to do with IU is that the publisher went to IU for Law School and the building is named for him. Stop trying to throw blame at a group of people that have nothing to do with it.

This would be like blaming Peyton Manning if your Papa Johns pizza was over cooked.

I don't get why IU fans think that Louisville fans are blaming them for this. Please stop claiming that we are blaming you for this scandal, because no one in this thread has stated that. A lot IU fans seem very defensive over this for no reason.

At the very beginning, the only thing that Tom Jurich stated about IU was that one of IU's top booster contacted somebody at IU to contact UL to confirm one of the pictures in the story, which was true was it not? And even when Jurich was asked directly "Was IU the one that turned you in?" He said he wouldn't comment on that. Then IU people explode with "Well, why were we brought into this??? This is a UL problem!!!" Louisville fans all know that this is a UL problem and no one really ever blamed you in the first place.

This is a UofL problem that appears to have been created by a former UofL employee.

That is the bottom line for "who" to be mad at if you're looking to go that direction.

Iu has a very delusional fan base. They talk about greatness but haven't done anything in 20 years. It would be better to wear blue than that shade of red.

Just to add more heat to the fire Chuck Smrt is an IU graduate and former IU football player.

Well this IU fan really hates it. Yes we have a segment of the fan base that has a streak of stupid longer than the distance from Bloomington to Lexington. Unfortunately every fan base has a similar segment and UofL is no exception. Regardless, this whole things sucks.

It's post like this that have pitted two respectful fan bases against each other which is just as stupid. UofL has a vast majority of incredible fans, as does IU. Personally, I think an associate AD at IU got played by a wealthy alum who owns a printing company that is desperate to make a buck. He found a smutty story and used whatever means he had at his disposal to corroborate the stuff is trying to sell. Unfortunately, stuff like this sells. If Maurer was interested in selling wild stories, how in the heck did ignore the Sampson years at IU? If people think the recent events at IU with 3 players getting kicked off was bad, they don't know one tenth of what apparently went on when KS was there.

I get the irritation that UofL fans have but at the same time, whether relevant or not, Rick's past indiscretions have helped feed this frenzy. I'm not saying that's fair but it certainly lends credence to the old saying that "the apple doesn't fall to far from the tree." I don't know want to believe any of this crap from a skank ho but at the same time, there appears to be a lot of smoke if there is no fire.

Regardless, I truly hate this for UofL. If IBJ publishing were truly into investigative reporting, I wish they'd aimed there gun east of Louisville about an hour and half. You will never convince me that there isn't a coach over there that isn't more deserving.
