Is that too many of us will want to compare him to Lamar Jackson. There is no other Lamar and we can forget that. We were incredibly fortunate to have had LJ for 3 seasons and the upcoming Taxslayer Bowl in Jacksonville. I hope we will understand that J. Pass is a fine QB prospect in his own right but he has a totally different skill set than LJ or anyone else.

I don't think we will be disappointed with Pass just like we weren't disappointed with Lamar after Teddy Bridgewater. Jawhon is a really good quarterback and he will be another great quarterback produced by the University of Louisville.

You forgot there was a season between Teddy and Lamar. 2014. We had a QB by committee that season with Bonnafon, Will Gardner and Kyle Bolin all starting games. As I recall all were compared with Teddy, none favorably.
Unfortunately we always compare the new guy to the person being replaced. That’s why I’ve always liked taking over for poor performers. The first few months are tough getting things straightened out but if you do your job well you always look better. Take over for someone who excels and you always hear people talking about how the last guy did things. You might eventually make them forget him or her but it’s tougher.

A lot of folks on here will be delighted to see a return to the “old” CBP offense.
When I watch the replay of the Kentucky game I see a lot of the old BP offense. Receivers open all over the field, QB hitting them in stride, line providing great protection and running backs hitting the holes quickly. Granted, it was vs the Slappies.

I think Jawon is going to be another star here but what I wouldn’t give to have Lamar for one more year, especially with Alabama up first. Not happening though.

Like with anything or anyone great, everything that comes after it will face intense scrutiny. Look at LeBron James, no matter what he does...MJ did it better in the eyes of of a certain segment of fans(I think MJ is better but I appreciate LeBron for what he is). Every basketball coach you all will have after Rick will face comparisons. Every basketball team since 2013 has faced the comparisons to your championship run.

Its just natural to compare. Once you seen and reached a high level of success, it becomes the new standard for comparison.

Not so fast.

#2 QB will be Malik Cunningham. A Lamar clone :D
I prefer a traditional dropback, but I'm not the HC.

Many have forgotten about RS Cunningham completely. This guy is also a stud dual threat QB; ESPN ranked him as the No. 65 overall athlete, the No. 1 quarterback in Alabama, and the No. 9 Dual-Threat quarterback in America. It's amazing how we've managed to recruit top QBs year after year and keep them content to wait their turn.

I think Cunningham will compete for the spot. I am not convinced that Pass is the man, I’ll put my money on Cunningham. I also really like the true freshman coming in from Miami. Wish all the guys well succeeding Lamar, big shoes to fill.

We ARE Quarterback U. In reality sans a lean year every now and then, we have always been Quarterback U.

We've had some great college QB's who have wore the Cardinals uniform dating back to Johnny Unitas. The current crop of QB's will keep us owning that title for the foreseeable future.

Go Cards!!!

Interesting point you make here. I prefer the traditional dropback QB as well and I feel that CBP does too. Is it just me or did it feel like CBP struggled to call plays for LJ? I think Petrino is much more comfortable with guys like Pass and that with him we'll see more flashes of CBP 1.0.

That's the goal: Get great players lined up. We do it at QB. Bama, Clemson, Ohio St etc do it at every position. Hopefully we will get to that level at all positions as well.

My OP did not mean to disparage any other of our QB candidates. I truly hope, as many of you have indicated, that we have an outstanding competition for our starting QB job for next year. I’m guessing that we’ll see that competition in the spring. My concern is that we have many fans that will be “down” on whomever the starter is if that guy doesn’t “measure” up to the standards that LJ set. Folks that bar is very, very high. If, indeed, we have a QB that is even close to being that good we should all be thankful. My only measuring stick are the games that Mr. Pass completed in and I think he did just fine (like the uahkay game). That doesn’t say that Cunningham (or the kid from Miami for that matter) is not a valid candidate. CBP is a pretty fair judge of QB talent and I’d think he’d be able to make a good choice.

Cunningham is more like Lamar, however, something gave me the Russell Wilson vibe when watching his film. Jawon Pass was once the top QB in his class. Had major mechanical issues that were figured out. I think he corrected them in year 1 and 2. I believe he will be a great QB. It may take a year, but by 2019 he will be a top ACC QB. Cunningham will be good as well and Travis has strong prospects as well. I think we lose 1 to transfer, but we’ll see.

All 5 of our OLinemen will be returning. That’s a good thing. Plus we know they will be well coached.

Hope we can ever get in that position with the DL too. IRT both returnees and also being well coached. That is on my X-mas wish list to Santa this year.

PS: Note to Santa.....please don't let me down.....and I promise you there will be more milk and extra cookies this year.:D Thank you in advance!!!!

true Lamar is special, but when Redman left who would have thought Ragone would be so good? Actually Tom Jurich did. i sat next to Tom, believe it or not at an IEEE dinner during Chris’s senior year. he was giving a presentation on how the Cardinal park was going to be built out and it would integrate cool electronics. he told me, wait to you see Dave Ragone he can throw the ball through a brick wall.

And when D Ragone left, who knew how good little Stefan LeFors would be? Then another star with Brian Brohm, Then Teddy and Lamar.

Just an amazing run at QB minus 2008-2010.
