No time change yet but are we anticipating one with the weather later?
If anybody hears something, can you let us know? Thanks

I thought the 3:00 start would be fine. Rain isn’t supposed to come in until after 6:00-6:30 (unless that changes). Cards should be able to handle Morehead St in 3 hours or less.

Cards would be wise to pitch around MSU's Thomas. 6 bombs in 10 games, 22 RBI's. The rain should hold off, but it will be windy.

Should've listened to you...

Hard to pitch around a guy when you walk the first two hitters and then get behind 3-0. Haven't been impressed with Hartman at all so far this year. Wouldn't mind seeing Cutts get a crack at the rotation.

Looks like we'll get a good look at what a Cutts start would look like; should've waited 30 seconds before my last post lol

Going to need Cutts on the weekends though. He, to me, is your first guy out of the pen on Friday or Saturday. Colton is certainly capable; not sure what is going on. I think you could use West or Freshman during the week.

The long relief role is definitely important and I do think Cutts is our best bet there. Why do you have so much confidence in Hartman? Not being condescending or anything, he just hasn't shown it to me. He has a 1.6 WHIP for the Cards and that's not factoring in how he looked today. I think the idea of a strong LHP starter is sexier than the reality of how he has looked. That said, he's young and should in theory learn how to pitch better against college hitters but I would've figured that would've clicked after getting a good amount of innings as a freshman

LOL. Right now, my confidence is pretty minimal. Coming into the season I thought he could be a weekend starter. I think he was dinged up in the Fall and right now he doesn’t seem to have any confidence. He and Biven need to talk to the sports psychologist and get their heads right.

Cutts hits his third batter of the Inning! That is four HBPs for Card pitchers. Geez. West now on the mound.

I guess confidence wasn't the right word. Why'd you think he could be a weekend starter? I didn't think he showed anything last year that would lead one to believe he could be a weekend starter. It's definitely wishful thinking because it'd be nice to have a solid LHP in the weekend rotation

I 100% believe he out-performed Detmers last year. However, you have to keep developing and take care of business on the mound when the time arrives. I thought his two previous outings were ‘ok’. Today - total trainwreck. Bug, athletic guy who can bring plenty of heat and has other pitches at his disposal. Of course, getting those pitches across the plate helps.

Another 3-run HR. This time off of West. Morehead is just hitting the ball hard. Cards must respond in the bottom-half of the inning.

7th inning. 6–5 bad guys. Pretty stiff breeze from the South blowing hard to LF and LCF. Taggert had a really hard hit ball last inning.

These Morehead pitchers are giving our batters too much trouble. They should be feasting on these mid-week pitchers. Pike gets a double and then Taggert with another hard hit ball, line drive right at the LF for an out. 😤

Biven is awful. He has no clue where he is throwing it. It leads to walks and always pitching from behind. He gets squared up a bunch.

Wouldn’t you know it, leadoff walk comes around to score…this team is going to have the same faults that they’ve had for the last three years. Our pitching coach stinks. I refuse to believe that D1 scholarship baseball players just can’t throw strikes. Frustrating as can be to watch

Not sure you can win every weekend night game giving up 8 runs but guess you have to survive these kind of games.

Munroe is really a good hitter.

These midweek games can be brutal. As much good starting pitching as I've seen with the weekend guys,it's been quite the adventure with some of the bullpen.

There are some guys emerging, some promising and others disappointing.

We're not a bad team, just far from the finished product. Having to find a way to win these games, they somehow did.

This is another middle of the pack tram. Pitching has been less than good for several years now. Without a change in mind set, we want all remain average at best.

Pitching hasn't sniffed what it was during the good times. No Brendan Mckay or Bobby Miller or Reid Detmers plus a plethora of others arms that had the Cards in the top 10 annually.

Don't know exactly who or what is the blame. Probably a bit of everything, but if Coach Mac doesn't find that level of hurlers again, the program will not repeat the glory days.

I am not convinced the pitching staff is poor. Forbes is excellent. His defense let him down the other day. Detmers and Michael have displayed enough talent to have us competitive on the weekends. The pen…yes, sort of confusing - again. Williams just isn’t going anywhere until Dan retires - which could be the issue. Wyatt has been very good; Eberle and Brown have been good. Others have certainly been hit and miss. Hartman and Biven have been MIA for the most part. But, it is early. There appear to be some good young arms. I’d say, let the cake bake a bit before declaring this team ‘average’. They have hitters up and down the lineup and depth on the bench. This team also shows immense grit and plays every inning - no giving up.

Morehead another team that came to swipe a victory and run. They were literally on the doorstep of doing it too

I can't quite remember a rally like the one I saw yesterday with 2 outs in the 9th.

Hartman and Biven have been MIA for the most part.
Certainly 2 guys that are being depended on to anchor the pen, they need to get it going before April. I'll give Hartman a pass because I know he's coming off an injury.
Love Brown and I love what I've seen from the 3 weekend starters.

I thought freshman Brandin Crawford looked very good - pitched 1.1 innings of shut out ball against St J’s…. Very live fastball!
I think we're gonna see these Freshmen get a shot early. It's basically an audition or a tryout in these early games to see who he can rely on.
This might be a bit of a shift from Mac and Miller's approach last season. We lost a lot of Redshirt Frosh to the transfer pool. Idk,just a thought.
