Mitchell is a man..

Mitchell has been really good, especially for a freshman. Poised and energetic. Doing a bit of everything out there.

When he misses, he goes and gets his rebound like no one I've ever seen. The kid can sky, he's passionate, he's smart ... Not sure we've ever recruited anyone like him, honestly.
Yeah, we have. It's been a very long time though.

LaBradford Smith. Same height. Same weight. Same mad dog mentality. Same mad hops. Right now the only thing this young man doesn't do as well as LA did was drop dimes. Give him some time and he'll be doing that too IMO. This kid is the real deal.

I remember LaBradford and I think Mitchell is better than he was at this stage in his career. I think LaBradford was a better ball-handler but other than that, I'll take Mitchell.

Some day when I have time, I'll have to find LA's freshman stats. I would like to see those and how they compare to Mitchell so far.

Ask and you shall receive. Labradford averaged 17.9 ppg, 6 assists and 2 steals per game as a FR. He also shot 90.5% from the line. I guess Mitchell has a way to go yet

Impressive. Guess I had forgotten. Unfortunately for Labradford, I don't think he had teammates as good as Mitchell does. Didn't he come along after Pervis had left? (87?)

Could be that they had to rely on Labradford for more than the current team has to rely on Mitchell, given Lewis, Lee and Onuaku.

Nope. LA had a great cast surrounding him. Pervis Ellison, Kenny Payne, Herb Crook, Felton Spencer. Mike Abram. Keith Williams.

LA was just a special freshman. Mitchell reminds me of him, but like nccardfan said, he has a ways to go to reach that level. I think he can.

I wouldn't leave out Gordon, but only as an impact Freshman player.Certainly, his stats don't stack up to some others, but his impact along with Charles Jones on a 2-5 team coming off a National Championsip, was arguably more substantial.Crum's move to put those 2 guys into the starting lineup after that 2-5 start netted some astounding results, only to be derailed by US Reed. That team was on quite a roll, the way I remember it.

Good point. Lancaster was one of my favorite Cards. Besides - what a great name!

WOuld have been interesting how far that team would have gone if that miracle shot hadn't happened. They were on a roll as I recall. In fact, they'd come from far behind in that game against Arkansas to take the lead.

That's right. 86 was Ellison's freshman year, so of course he was still there.
