"...This past week, Sloan said, Conley persuaded teammates to run routes for him, playing throw and catch in Louisville’s indoor facility. The next day, Conley tried again. Not finding any takers, he went alone and set up targets and nets.

'He was in there throwing balls by himself,' Sloan said. 'That’s what kind of kid he is, and that’s what he’s going to do.'..."

Yes, entire cultures change in a month at the time of year where the coaches aren’t even allowed to actually coach yet.

We will see, not exactly the way a freshman should of handled that interview, but he will learn. A early enrollee competing for the wide receivers friends job in week one, not real surprised he didn't find any takers. He could of left out the no one showed on day 2.

The rebuilding of the program isn't happening overnight not sure anyone expected 100 percent buyin day 1. Nice try though.

Plus zipp you have to remember “where” this report is coming from. The curious urinal WILL be negative any time they get the opportunity to be negative. Their mission in life is NOT to report the news but to “make” the news. I was hoping that during all of the interviews with CSS yesterday someone would have ask him specifically about this but that didn’t happen. I believe it was an opportunity lost.

The quote in the CJ wasn’t attributed to Conley, it was attributed to Conley’s HS Coach Brett Sloan. Conley probably confided this to Sloan, and Sloan decided to share it with the reporter... probably meant to illustrate Conley’s work ethic and his excitement to be at Louisville.

If accurate, it does say a lot Conley’s work ethic. It might also say something about the work ethic of ‘some’ of the current players.

Players should know that coaches at every level take notice of scenarios like this. I’m reminded of what Vance Bedford once said, “Get on board, or get out of the way”

I would have just the opposite take OP:.....this type of player is the beginning of more players with this type of attitude....a definite change, IMO, from the previous type recruits as far as motivation and desire for self improvement and bonding so it seems. I like it.;):D

Besides, could be the time he went into the practice facility was not conducive for those players due to their schedule....who knows...the writer didn't specify what time it was.

Could be lots of viable reasons he had no takers. Who knows....speculating for the best is more positive than speculating for the worse. Depends on your POV. I lean to the positive.

Echoing/amplifying what Mayo said ... College student schedules aren’t the same from day to day. The article doesn’t say why the players who made it the first day couldn’t make it the second - the OP just assumed it was because they were slacking, when a more likely explanation is that the free time in their schedules that day didn’t align with Conley’s.

I don't disagree. So maybe you and your radio buds wanna slow the roll until we have more evidence. Or less evidence like this...

Hearing from someone that works in ad dept. They see the coached interacting with the players off the field more than they ever have in the past month than the last few years combined and are holding the football players more accountable with academics etc.. than they’ve seen before. The culture may not change immediately and you wont here about that in zipp’s favorite newspaper.

Zipp waited 5 mins before trashing Mack’s recruiting but we have to remember to pump the brakes on anything positive. Cant have that coming from the athletic dept.
He’s been awfully quiet about Mack as of late. Hoping Satterfield turns this thing around quickly as well and maybe we won’t have to deal with the endless stream of what I am now christening as “stormcloud pumping” the opposite of sunshine pumping.

Which one of us has declared the culture already changed? I certainly haven’t.

I DO believe that there is evidence that proves that the EFFORT is being made to change the culture from the Bobby Petrino era to the CSS era. And that’s a good thing. It will take time and anyone that doesn’t believe that is simply wrong.

i'm not declaring anything. I'm just relaying some info I was told. The person who told me this isn't even a big sports fan but they noticed the change in the way the new and old staff was interacting with the players.

The only reason it bothers you so much is because its positive. If I said that the players were completely out of control right now with Satterfield you'd have no issue with it.

The only reason it "bothers" me is it's one-sided. A freshman QB can't get guys in the new culture to practice voluntarily. How much have you been discussing that?...

I never said that the culture was completely different or it was a finished product. I just repeated what someone told me which happens to sound positive. On the other hand you are attempting to comment on how the football staff isn't doing their jobs based on one line from the CJ which wasn't even the point the story was trying to make. You have no idea why the QB couldn't get receivers back for the 2nd day. You have no idea why he couldn't get guys the 2nd day, there are a 100 possible reasons why receivers couldn't show up but you somehow managed to predict (hope and pray) that the guys did it out of malice.

I stopped visiting these boards a few years back because of some poster named Cardlaw who dominated every thread with his nonsense. I now check in on random occasions and it looks like Zipp has taken up where Cardlaw left off. You guys have pretty much ruined what used to be a good thing here.

Other than ironically tarnishing Jurich’s legacy on here, I find Zipp to be somewhat amusing and sometimes entertaining.

FWIW

I'm sure most remember the video last Summer when Saban had players out on his boat and the ran out of gas.

I mentioned this video to a last-year-player and he laughed and said "Yeah, we saw it. Petrino wouldn't EVER take us on his boat. Or anywhere else".

Now they are on outings together. Bowling and such.

I'd say changes have already happened.

I get it, just ignore it. Still good back and forth on here with about 20 or so folks. I can't handle the negativity either......

I respectfully submit that you're at risk on the interweb.

Timeless zipp-ism #86: "Thin skin has no place on an internet message board."

The kids have to be accountable for their actions. By the sounds of it this staff is being very clear with their message. They have a board that list each player that isn't getting it, late to meeting, meals, class etc. Apparently, Brents was on that board for multiple things, he is no longer on the roster. He has a path back but it is up to him.

That change is going to take time and some kids won't buy in intitially and others not at all. As long as the staff is consistent with each player the culture will change, but it will take time.

Agreed, but whats supposed to be a fan site often times gets hi-jacked by negative responses over and over again. Gets old!
