Maybe hiring your entire family is a bad idea..

A lot of fingers should be pointing at Nick Pentrino.
Kyle Bolin - Good passer but he came here with that
Reggie Bonofon - poor passing skills
Lamar Jackson - poor passing skills
Puma Pass - came here with decent passing skills, in his third year here now and passing skills seem to have declined.
Don’t think Nick knows what he is doing.

Really? The UofL family that is those that played at UofL?
Well, I'm not sure I wanna recruit coaches from former players anymore than I wanna recruit coaches from family members. Looks to me like you're trading one risk for another, neither having an obvious advantage except perhaps fan support. And we seek how fickle and unreliable that is.

I guess we could have hired Kenny Payne as basketball coach... :p

Perhaps if Payne had been a successful HC at the collegiate level he would have been legitimately considered. Though given the Pitino situation I doubt hiring another ex yut coach would be in the Cards (pun intended)

Surprised you didn’t point out that the only reason Vince is AD is because his dad played at UL. If he’s “U of L family” even though he played baseball at LPT, then how can he enforce a nepotism policy?

It was told by several people I trust and believe, that Nick was a spoiled, pampered, dope smoking p!$$ punk at THS.

Now he’s making $200k and “appears” to be doing nothing.

Ain’t America great? :confused:o_O;)

Haven’t you learned anything in the past month? What you did in HS and college should have no bearing on what you’re entitled to - be it as QB coach at a P5 school or, a SCOTUS justice.

Sounds like the status quo at that school nothing new from that.

I think the Nick Petrino issue is the most exaggerated U of L football subject I can envision. If there's one position on a Bobby Petrino team that's redundant, it's the QB coach.

A better argument would be to just save that $200K and put in the DC job. But name me another team in the country without a QB position coach. And does anyone really think another $200K would get us a good DC?...I don't.

The only comparable situation is in Miami. Basically nick’s position is a contract perk to Bobby - no different than a country club membership. You’re right about one thing though, adding 200K wouldn’t get us a good DC - you’d need 2M to get a top 10 DC that would agree to work for Petrino at this point.

I agree that the focus on Nick is overshadowing other realities. Namely that most of the staff is under qualified or lacks great past performance, and that as whole the staff doesn’t stack up to what we consider our football peers.

My only point is, Bobby was an enabler when Nick was a kid, and he’s still enabling him to be a nothing.

The kid seems to have zero value to anyone but Bobby. And of course Momma.

Bobby is doing him a disservice by not sending him out on his own.

Nick isn't the problem. He's simply an under qualified member of a patch work staff that are all bottom tier options at their positions.

Summers was a good name, but he was out of a job. Van Gorder was out of a job, LD Scott was family, Ryan Beard - family....Galloway was the only member of the staff with any sort of "buzz" when he was hired. Lorenzo Ward was at Fresno State, I think? Regardless this is a mish-mash staff with lots of turnover all working for a coach who has inexplicably had a massive personality change over the last 5 years. So its no wonder guys aren't getting developed, the team is always uncoordinated and confused, guys have no worries about protecting the ball or playing with discipline.

LOL...I was wondering when Mike Summers was getting speared.

And I'm not picking on you because you had PLENTY of company. Two years ago, he was gonna save the O-line, and we had people willing to jump out windows if Petrino didn't bring him back.

I don't disagree that he deserves scrutiny on a coaching staff that ALL deserve it. But now he was "unemployed" when we rehired him. Fans are oblivious to how wrong they often are...

I'm not picking on him per say, I liked the hire at the time. My point about Summers was only that he was unemployed at the time he was hired and unemployed and family members are the only two requirements for a spot of Petrino's staff.
