When asked by @TimSullivan714 if Louisville players are still responding to the coaching staff or if they’re tuning them out, Malik Williams paused and then said, “I don’t have a comment for that.”

I would have to see his facial reaction but I don’t have a problem with the “no comment”

Doesn't really matter at this point anymore. It is now at the stage if Mack maes it through the remaining season and who the next coach will be. I really wasn't expecting to be here so soon with Mack.

I think Mack made a lot of mistakes in the off season...should probably go back to recruiting freshman...maybe only 1 or 2 transfers. If next year just as bad...then time to change. We need our results on our infractions...4 years and still waiting...is affecting coaching...players...recruiting....fans! Ridiculous how long this takes...should get nothing considering time served.

I was at the mindest of keeping him also until the ncaa stuffs comes down. But it is so so toxic with the BB program and alot of fans. It does neither party anygood. U of l might just need to work out some kind of deal . That has been floating aound the past couple of weeks

But that was the problem. It’s almost 10 years since we won the NC. The pressure to win and win soon was bearing down on him. He thought he could do it faster with transfers.

I go back and forth with him...but the unknown has to affect his recruiting.

Malik is a net-negative guy at this point: he subtracts more than he adds. And he has no future here if you want to dispense with him now. That’s a big part of Mack’s problems…there are guys on this team who shouldn’t be here.

The NCAA stuff is an excuse. Not affecting other programs like Kansas and Auburn. Maybe you do wait to hire a coach until it’s over, but that doesn’t say much about the way things are now (or why). We’re a disaster 95% of our own making…

Those other schools were not on probation at the time . That is a big difference.

That’s no difference. Most people nationally have no awareness of that outside Louisville. And most of these other transgressions (schools) are far greater than Louisville’s.

We’re living in and dwelling on the past, some of us to defend nonperformance that shouldn’t be defended…

Yeah, nothing was really said about Murray not getting the job done. He was responsible for recruiting the Irish Hulk (bust), Sam Williamson (leaning towards being a bust) and David Johnson (left too early).

Agree. Sit Maliks ass on the bench or let him stay at his room. Soft as hell and pitiful energy

Our fan base isn’t helping the situation with their booing. Why would a recruit want to come to a school that boos their players. We keep making our situation worse every game.

I feel a bit sorry for Malik. With all his injuries he is just barely limping around out there. I noticed one play where Sam made a great pass to Malik in NDs zone. Instead of getting an easy bucket he hesitated and passed it back out due to his lack of mobility and lift.

Not surprised by Sullivan’s “loaded question”; but Malik is entitled to respond to a question without being punished by this staff, and he needs to be on the floor win or lose. His punishment will be on draft day ……. NBA GMs will know about his response and he is not good enough to overcome a reputation as divisive to his team.

UL, it’s coaches and it players need to finish the season without adding to the drama.

I doubt any NBA team was going to draft him anyway.

They were booing the coaches, every program that has pride would do the same thing.
How do you know that they are not booing the product and the outcome? My guess is that they were booing the coaches, the players and the performance. I understand the frustration but I also don’t think that makes recruits excited to join this group.

I was at the wake forest game (a win) and when the game was being delayed for a minute when Mack was arguing with a referee, the fans were yelling for Mack to shut up. He’s lost the team and the fans. He may be a good coach but he isn’t a good fit here.

I’m not counting on Mack’s recruits, whoever is here has the portal to get this right quickly. Kentucky is full of transfers and they are pretty good this year after a horrible year last year.

They also have some very good recruits and returning players.

Then we’re in a lot of trouble because who in their right mind wants to walk into this. As I’ve said on other threads. NCAA ruling

Hold on. Wasn’t at the game. Our fans were booing the players?

Supposedly our best recruit (James) is sitting out this year with an injury. We have some talent, just no guidance.
I think that is a lot of the frustration. I have enthusiastically cheered for plenty of teams with average talent. But when they are not hustling and improving, that turns people off. To make matters worse, this group seems to hate each other and the coaching staff has no clue how to put together a rotation or prevent dissension in the ranks.

I think hate each other is probably too strong. The apparent shuffling of players has made this a competition within a competition. The players are just as frustrated.

Was at the game until the final buzzer (unlike the majority of attendees) and heard the booing but the dude I came with said it was in reaction to the way the ND players were reacting after the game.

You are correct BK; Sullivan and the media are only adding to the negativity surrounding this basketball program. The booing started by those who stayed around and witnessed the ND players reacting post game.

It is really difficult to criticize Malik. He is still hurt and appears to be playing not get hurt again. He should shut it down if he wants to play overseas. He can’t defend the post and he can’t score in the low post. Hard to watch him try to play through it.

Really tough question but fair question to ask him. Pretty smart response.

And I have heard this from people that are close to the program as well. I have no reason to believe it's not true.

You actually think that no one outside of Louisville knows that?! Every coach we are recruiting against knows that, and every one of them is letting every recruit we are trying to sign know it. Repeatedly.

Absolutely I believe it. It never comes up from anyone not trying to defend underperformance in athletics and basketball specifically.

And I hear garbage like that from the same people who wanna defend Tyra and/or Satterfield for the messes they allegedly inherited.

IOW, it's rhetoric from people with an agenda to defend the indefensible. And when they're proven wrong--like a recent AD who engineered his exit--apologists are nowhere to be heard from. I don't keep track of names or avatars, I just monitor the narratives then and now. Amazing how they change and how much we can now hear the crickets...

I'll also add that four-plus years out, excuses no longer resonate. You're not paid what you are to not overcome obstacles. Anyone here can manage a situation and make excuses. Either get these jobs done, or move the hell aside for someone who can...

The did walk into a mess. Let’s stop with there were no challenges. It is lazy and old.

The football roster was a mess especially on defense. It had good pieces on offense but nothing on defense. Rebuilding football takes time especially at Louisville. Throw in Covid it threw everything out of whack.

Basketball is a different story. It is easy to rebuild in basketball especially at Louisville. Mack for whatever reason hasn’t been able to build a good roster. NCAA and Covid are factors, but their play is not good. You can’t lose at home like they are and not see something is wrong. What you see on the court is easy to evaluate. What is happening behind the scenes isn’t.

Mack and Satterfield have done themselves no favors with fans. That is on them, no one else is too blame.

In both situation, the HCs for Men’s football and basketball inherited most challenging conditions; certainly in terms of rosters, but the off the court/field situations as well.

Does that excuse either HC? I do not think so, but then I am not sure there is evidence that other candidates would have been more successful

Everyone in the country dealt with Covid. That’s plainly an excuse.

And in Year 5, just about everything is an excuse. We’re a dumpster fire because we bought a dumpster and put a match to it.

Five years have given us plenty of opportunity to do that. Why do you think the AD imposter is now gone? He shepherded this embarrassment.

The world is full of losers and whiners who don’t take responsibility for themselves. Time we look in the mirror…
