KHSAA decided to end state football championships at PJCS when we went into the Big East and this weekend wouldn't always be available due to our schedule.
Now they play at WKU but WKU not only has a game tomorrow - they've known this for a week - they decided the game would be played after the WKU game.
I think UL/PJCS could have hosted a football game tomorrow with a week's notice.
What do you think? Should the game be returned to PJCS now that this weekend will always be open at home since the ACC championship is played tomorrow in Charlotte?

We are going to the game tomorrow and I would prefer that it was played here. There will likely only be about 2 hours between games. If WKU wins there will be a lot of hanging around the limited parking spots so traffic is going to be a pain. Not to mention we have to pay for 2 hotel rooms. Should be a good time regardless.

I am a Trinity graduate and I hope Male wins the championship, I will always root for Jefferson County schools over the schools from the rest of the state. Playing the games in Bowling Green is just another way the KHSAA can try and stop the Louisville schools from dominating high school football.

They will probably move it to Lexington or Paducah every now and then but it will probably be a long time before it is in Louisville again.

Just FYI, the KHSAA probably would have kept the championships in Louisville (at PJCS) but Louisville couldn't renew the deal b/c of its then-new Big East obligations. There was great satisfaction from the visiting fans/schools in favor of Louisville, which is also a little more centrally located to the schools who normally travel to the games. (Especially Louisville -- of course -- but also Northern Kentucky, plus close enough to central and eastern Kentucky). And the other fan bases would often make a trip out of it to the Louisville stores (for Christmas) and other attractions.

But there is now great satisfaction with WKU. Its stadium is smaller (but still very large) and has a homier, closer to the field atmosphere. Hospitality has also been great, although parking and traffic can be problematic. Locker room facilities certainly pale in comparison to PJCS. But WKU has the upper hand if it can work something out to keep it.

So the gist is that the contract for the championship games may be up for grabs sooner rather than later if WKU can no longer guarantee those dates. And PJCS would be the logical choice again. Not sure if UK has any interest but might make a push now that it has upgraded Commonwealth stadium.

The contract was just renewed and it was after Louisville was in the ACC. I do agree with you that Bowling Green is more centrally located. However, almost every year there will be a team from Jefferson County in the playoffs in multiple divisions.
The KHSAA would make more money by having the playoffs in Louusville than anywhere else in Kentucky. I do believe that there is more to where they have the playoff games other than conference affiliation and availability. If you look at how the teams were paired against each other in the playoffs Trinity, Male and St. X are always paired against each other early.
Go Male!!!

My understanding at the time the championship first moved, Louisville was willing to hold the championships but Bowling Green "wanted" the championships. The Big East issue could have been worked around (like they are doing this year)if the desire was there.

I don't have a dog in this fight; however, I like hs football at PJCS. Perhaps KY should pick site based on the location of the high schools involved to best serve the young players and their families instead of having 3.5 hour one-way travel times? All 3 major stadiums could be made available on reserve without much problem.

Just like the Sweet 16 in basketball, the football championships will never return to Louisville. With Commonwealth now a turf field and the fact that UK never needs the stadium after November, I can see the state championships shifting to Lexington in the near future.

Male wins 41-14. Undefeated!

Congrats to Male. My dad and uncles went there. Reading my uncle Owen's letters from WW2 (he was killed in Holland) he was always asking Granny about the outcome of the Male/Manual game. It was a family tradition growing up that we went to the game (Thanksgiving) at old Cardinal Stadium and Granny's for the big meal. Great memories. Always excited to see Male players at UofL too. I went to Seneca but I always cheer for other high schools when they are doing well. Ellen

Worst idea ever. There are teams from all over the state playing every year. Bowling Green is a great location. Again, totally dumb idea

I noticed on the wall at Male there were graduating classes of 1941 1/2 1942 1/2, 1943 1/2, 1944 1/2, 1945 1/2. As a HS student I found this strange so I asked a teacher why there were grad classes with 1/2 years. She told me because back then Male was an all male school with a heavy military influence and they had so many seniors sign up for military service after Pearl Harbor they had to move up the graduating class and adjust from there. After that explanation, every time I walked under the front sign "For God,For Country,For Male" I thought about those young guys like me and how that phrase wasn't just a saying to them.

Thought I would share this with you cuz of your Uncle and how even though I didn't know him personally, I new of his sacrifice.

Thank you. There's so much wonderful history that will lost so whenever we can remind folks. I was born several years after my uncle was killed in 1944, but I have most of his letters from 1938 when he entered the military to just before July 7, 1944, when he was MIA/killed. He wanted to be a writer and actually wrote something for the Courier-Journal. I got to know him, other family members who died before I was born, plus how they lived.

tdk's idea has merit.

Why should BG get the games every year?

Critical thinking is in short supply for some folks.
