One aspect that I really liked about Chris Mack’s resume was his record in the heated Crosstown Shootout. Mack was 6-3 against UC. During that time UC had a significant recruiting advantage having been in the Big East Conference, while Xavier was in the A-10. Evenso, Mack owned UC.
On paper it appears to me that Mack values rivalries and excels. I’m really excited to see how that attitude transfers to his team. I always felt Pitino’s dislike of the rivalry game effected his team. Instead of embracing the game he always downplayed it saying it was only important to the fans. I hated that kind of defeatist attitude.
