Louisville vs Wake Forest

Walz was incredulous at the refs on that over and back call on WF that stopped a Cards breakaway bucket. I couldn't believe the announcers never picked up on it. The WF player knocked the ball over mid court and the ref blew the whistle as a Cards player was about to take it to the goal.

It's not a violation until a offensive player touches the ball after it crosses mid court. It's egregious errors like this that hurts the women's game.

I have watched a lot of games this year and the refs are consistently bad. I hate it when they let the hard knocks go uncalled and then at the other end you get called for a touch foul.

HVL is struggling right now but when she is in the game they double team her. That means we always have an open player but when she goes out they play us man to man.

Our defense looks good our offense is really struggling. Cochran and Dixon really have trouble holding on to the ball. HVL is doing everything except scoring if we keep messing around we will lose this game.

We are witnessing another late 3d quarter wilting. No fouls called on Wake…hmmmm

Liz and Olivia have bad hands - period. Once again we are not getting the ball in the paint to Olivia. That is where she is best. Totally silly watching her float aroundnthe top of the key.

I hate to say it but Coach Walz doesn't appear capable of bringing this group together. The same players keep making the same turnovers and taking the same bad shots. Robinson is the only one out there doing her job.

Carr is the best 3 point shooter in the conference yet we never seem to run plays for her. Instead we keep trying to post Dixon and Cochran despite both struggling to make close in shots.

Somethings amiss and that ultimately falls on the coach.

I don’t understand the stratergy here Cochran scores on a tough shot down low and she comes out. It seems like CC won’t pass the ball to HVL and all of a sudden nobody can rebound.

WF is shooting the lights out because they're very confident and they're confident because they can see the Cards players frustration and doubt on their faces.

To me, it appears team chemistry is the issue with attitudes and resentment.

This group, unfortunately, is just not quite right. They aren’t bad. But, I’m not so sure they can be great. They are step slow (athleticism) and still don’t really have that extra outside threat. Basically, they are really missing Emily and Kiana. I really thought Morgan would fill that void and be a better scorer - just hasn’t happened. I’d still go low to Cochran or Harris. Still, too many TOs and giving up easy baskets on defense.

CC hasn’t hit a 3 pointer since the 1st quarte she has missed 3 straight. Kasa turns the ball over 2 times in a rolw. Cochran had an opportunity for a layup instead takes an 8 footer and misses. Hopefully we can overcome all this and pull out a win but it doesn’t look good

Total flop. But, lack of execution- period. Too many easy baskets by Wake. Too many TOs - again

Cards deserve to have the refs suck because of how they played tonight. The team looks broken and it's not looking good.

Strange season for Louisville basketball.

Here is something that bothers me in a lot of our losses this year we are down running out of time and we casually bring the ball up court.

A bad melt down I hope we can get back on track but we are going to have to do some soul searching including CJW.

Well not a good time to get a technical.
That may have been on purpose to take some heat off the players? That's something a good coach would do. The game was over anyway. Show leadership and take the blame which he probably feels anyway.

But he needs to figure it out soon if possible. This just may be the rare bad season that everyone except Uconn goes through.

It doesn’t matter if we are playing a good team or a bad team the game is going to be close. I just saw some players that didn’t look happy I hope we can solve this problem. If we have a down year I am fine with it as long as it doesn’t drag on. I am worried about NIL and the effect it might have on our recruiting.

Texas volleyball built a National Title team with NIL and the transfer portal. Duke has 11 players on their women’s basketball team from the transfer portal. We either get involved or get left behind. My biggest fear is we will have a down year and some of our best players transfer out. In the years we had Schoni, Asia and Angel there were multiple 1000 point scores on those teams. This team currently has one and that is HVL.

CJW’s post game comments were about as comprehensive as any that I have heard in a while. The officiating was horrible, no surprise there; however Jeff made clear that his disappointment with his team refusing to follow staff instruction and execute as they had practiced was the reason for the loss.

I trust Jeff, and I believe he understands women’s BB as well as anyone in the game, and he has repeated time after time that his roster is very talented, but he has never had a roster that fails to follow the game plan, or execute what the staff has told them.

On a more positive note, it appears that Morgan Jones is starting to gain confidence in her offensive game; and if she continues to get comfortable in this rotation, it could make a big difference come tournament time when HVL regains her stroke. Dixon and Cochran do not need to score, as much as defend the paint and rebound on the defensive boards.

I will add that Jeff is clearly frustrated by this team and I am starting to think there may be some chemistry issues on this team. Could there be some resentment on the team when one of the players is raking in all of this NIL money and obviously special perks, i.e customized basketball shoes? This team seems to me a three headed monster with HVL, Jones and Carr each doing their own thing but not working together. Emily was good last year because she created her own offense, the bigs this year seem to depend on the guards to be able to contribute. If it is locker room issues, it may be difficult to right the ship but I have confidence in Jeff and we still have a few games and the tournament.

Must be talking about the ACC tournament…NCAA is starting to fade away!

Problem is neither can jump. Olivia is somewhat aggressive rebounding while Liz is not. Morgan has many defensive lapses. I’d love to see more of Nyla. She can score and is athletic; her defensive lapses get her sent to the bench rather quickly.

I worry about it being a chemistry problem because that is hard to fix especially late in the season. The drawback about the transfer portal is the transfers you are getting are mostly transferring because they want more playing time and more recognition. When I watch our games CC hardly ever passes the ball to HVL.
CC does great in the 1st quarter but then fades away the rest of the game. Glad to see Morgan getting back in groove. HVL is in a shooting slump but does a lot of other things well. Every time she touches the ball 2 defenders pick her up leaving someone open. Liz and Olivia definitely aren’t the good hands people but they definitely can be factors in the game.

We tend to melt down in the 4th quarter and that problem needs to be solved. We could be running out of gas that could be solved by substituting early in the game so the 4th quarter the starters have some energy left. I get it that CJW is definitely frustrated but he needs to do better managing it.

All this being said this team has the talent and coaching to do some damage in the tournament. Like I said if it is a chemistry problem that could be hard to solve let’s hope it is not that.

I think its obvious that the portal and the one and done system by UK is suspect is because it takes more than just 1 year for players to adjust to each other's style of play. These kids are not professional and just expected to find a way to play together. I don't know if Jeff's system is similar to CRP's when it seem like it takes a couple of years to fully understand it. I think back about guys like Garcia (3 years) and Dieng, who were probably NBA guys but took a year or two longer to reach their full potential.

I thought that our double-teaming and trapping is leaving a wide open 3 opportunity too often, and chasing the dribbler is not working out as designed. Do not be surprised to see some zone defense as a way to simplify for the newbys.

Yes, I am talking about the ACC tournament, and I still believe we have a chance to receive at an at-large bid if we can improve between now and the end of the regular season.
