When we are in transition we are a really good team when aren’t in transition we really struggle.
Good 1st half Cards up by 15 Curry ends the half with 5 3 pointers. We look good as a team running in transition. Virginia is playing a zone and they haven’t come out of it luckily we are hitting out side shots. We are also out rebounding Virginia. I don’t want to get to confident because we had a 13 point lead earlier in the 1st half and Virginia cut it down to 6 real quick.
I hope the team continues to keep up their defensive intensity for more than the first half.
I really liked the response when UVA made their mini-run. What I really like is the defensive intensity. They have to bring that every game and bring it all game long. Very good ball movement as well.
Struggling to score here in the 3d and UVA is making some shots. Like to see Cards get the ball in the point s little more.
We finish the 3rd quarter strong end it with a 17 point lead. I like the defense and I like the up tempo game I think that is where we are at our best. I also like every player on the team going for loose balls and rebounds.
#35 for Virginia is killing us down low when she goes to her left. She can not go to her right she is awful when she does.
I think the refs are getting caught up in the emotion of the game
Gotta say…i’m PO’d right now. UVA is not shooting well from outside - at all! Go ZONE!! He used some zone in the first half. Our defense has lost intensity and I am seeing tired legs. Substituting in the second half is not what we saw in the first half. I hope they can pull this off but we are seeing the same (hate to say it) choking when this squad gets a reasonable lead.
I am old enough to never bad mouth a road conference win but that was very stinky.
1) 2-15 FG in the 4thQ. All season at critical times or against the better teams, we have gone cold.
2) UVA scored 52 points in the paint. I have rarely seen a team give up so many straight line driving layups and never seen a UL women's team do it.

Dominating first half. Won this one with very good defense and outstanding rebounding effort. +12 on the boards, including Olivia with 11 and Taj Roberts with 9. Jayda was on fire in that first half, and her teammates were very unselfish in finding her for the open three.
Defense on that last possession was outstanding, and the tenacity to win multiple of those 50/50 balls on our last offensive possession was huge.

Unless I see a drastic change in the next few games, I am going to say the 2nd round of the NCAA tournament will be their ceiling and they could easily be upset in the first round depending on the matchups. Curry is not a PG, she's a scorer but she's trying her best. Berry seems like she could be something special but the light just hasn't come on yet for her. Too much inconsistency all around.
For the first 3 quarters, we played about as well as any game that I have witnessed this year. The 4th quarter was emblematic of so many of our earlier losses that remain a bit of a mystery to fans. Not to pin that poor 4th quarter performance on any one player, but when Williams “got her pocket picked”, and then fouled the thief for a 3 point play …… it seemed like the rest of our team tightened up and were “playing not to lose, rather than playing to win.
If it sounds strange, its because it really is difficult to explain how any team can dominate, or at least be leading comfortably over the home team (in this case by 17 points), only to end up getting out-scored 20-6 in the fourth quarter.
I listened to CJW post game comments, and it was evident that he is as clueless as I am in explaining why these 4th quarter performances.

In transition we are a really good team when we slow it down we are not. In the 4th quarter when we have the lead we quit attacking in transition and we try to run the clock. Then we lose our momentum and let the opponent back in the game.
Generally, I agree this team is not as strong in their half-court offense as they are in transition. However, yesterday, the half-court offense was pretty good (for a while). Good ball movement, crisp passing, solid shot selection and they made shots. I was happy when we showed a zone defense and the disappointed that CJW didn’t go back to it late 3d qtr and the 4th. UVA was killing us in the paint and wasn’t hitting from outside. Protect the paint and force them to shoot! Made no sense. Stubbornness? I don’t know. Quicker interior players make our 4-5s look Really slow. Doesn’t help that O, Nyla nor Elif can elevate.
Curry is not the point guard. Williams is the PG, and Curry shares some of the ball handling duties. Williams is very good off the bounce, so some plays start with Curry with the ball in order to draw the defense out of the lane. Curry then passes to either Williams or Taj Roberts who drives the lane.
Looking at the future…who is the next PG? Roberts seems more like a 2. Arenas…again, a 2. Berry…a 2. I think Berry could be a 1 though. Hard to tell. Arena and Berry both need to get stronger. Roberts is very crafty and can create her shot (why I would want her to have the ball at the end of a game).
I know technically Williams is the PG but typically you want your PG to have at least a 2.0 assist to turnover ratio. In all games, Curry has a 2.0 assist/TO ratio and Williams has a 1.8. In conference games only, Curry has a 1.6 assist/TO ratio and Williams is slightly better at 1.68 assist/TO so neither one is tearing it up.
I would like to see Jeff pursue an athletic “big”, someone like Lattimore. The 6’4” transfer from Miami could just as easily selected UL, instead of landing at UVA. Her two early fouls resulted in sitting out much of the 1st and 2nd quarters; which helps explain our first half domination.
Nyla and Olivia both gave solid performances once again last Sunday. My concern is with Isla and Elif; both are tall but neither one are providing the necessary contribution this team needs to win a ACC Championship.

Well, Ilsa is a FR and she just needs time Elif, to me, has provided a lot this year. Often, the team surges with her on the court and Olivia on the bench. He has 6’4” Hardy on the bench and 6’5” Imafidon. They could be used sparingly for defensive purposes- but they aren’t. Hardy is by far the most athletic of the group. The 6’5” young lady from Danville is supposed to be pretty good (we’ll see). Bottomline, finding ‘bigs’ who can come in and contribute (significantly) right away are not easy to come by. Now, if you want to contribute 100K to the WBB NIL to help pay for someone like that - please do.
She is there. She is raw. For her, my guess her main role is as a practice player to bang against our other bigs, etc.
Elif is just too slow. You cannot press effectively with her in the game. Also slow getting up and down the floor.
She plays the post pretty well but is too slow to guard anybody. Don't ever see her starting for us.
I seriously doubt UVA Women’s basketball paid $100K, or anything remotely close to that for Lattimore. If you have any evidence of that having taken place, I would be surprised to hear it.
I know statistics do not tell the entire story, nor does any one game provide a fair assessment of a player’s contribution, but in 5 minutes against UVA, Elif missed her only shot, got no rebounds, did not have any assists. If the team was more productive, or could sustain any surge with Elif playing in place of Olivia, she would be playing a lot more than what we have seen.
