LOUISVILLE VS UTEP GAME THREAD- 7PM ACCNX

There is already one particular ref who has no buisness being at this level. He's made three bad calls already. He's guessing out there.

Other than that, I fear the Cards are not as dialed in like they need to be. UTEP is a break in the schedule and the Cards defense especially hasn't been focused.

Can we all agree Waterman should shoot less? I mean has anyone ever seen a worse shooter who believes they're a good shooter?

I admit I'm only going by him in a Cards uniform, but from game one I haven't been impressed with his shot. It's flat and his release is inconsistent, even at the FT line.

I just think miss everytime he shoots a 3 and he's 4 for 17 at the FT line? Good shooters don't miss FT's like that.

He's needed down low and the sooner the better.

This is god awful. Somehow UTEP can recruit players that can shoot but Louisville hasn’t been able to find any consistent shooters for 5-6 years. It is unreal.

Confidence.

Players have to have it, shooters the most. Louisville looks to me like a team that thinks they are shooters, but miss after miss, that confidence is all but gone. Yet, the offense they run requires 3 point shooting, so they continue to shoot the 3.

That Bynum dude is a shooter. If the Cards had that threat, the other players would get more uncontested 3's. I was hoping Smith would be this, but he just takes too many bad shots.

Edwards needs to start.

I wouldn’t say Bynum dude took good shots they just went in. The difference is if he gets a clean look at 60 percent I like his chances. Louisville guys get clean looks they just miss. Perfect inbound play for Smith at the end of the game great look misses it.

Waterman is a wreck mentally. He was 80% from FT line and 42% from 3 last year. He is shooting free throws worse than Shaq. How do you explain that other than Waterman right now is a mess.

It could be anything from pressure to succeed to being too anxious to succeed. For me, it's his shooting form. He has a flat release and the spin is inconsistent. He looks like a player that thinks he's a good perimeter shooter because he's made some in his career, but he's really not and when they're not going in, he gets frustrated and the shot is even more inaccurate.

I thought that Edwards played better last night coming off the bench. He played much more controlled!
Watermain brick needs to definitely come off the bench!

I have always heard coaches tell their players to "square up" or at least their shoulders to the basket when shooting. Waterman does neither in his FT or 3 pt shooting. I also wonder why when there are so many coaches that a flaw is not corrected. You can shoot 1000 times incorrectly and it's not going to get better. If its only confidence, I would say yes, keep shooting if everything else is correct.

The other thing that might be more likely is that with Pryor going down, he's the most likely choice (same height and body type) that has to replace him. If he keeps trying to be that guy, hes not going to succeed. If he works on defending, getting rebounds, and not settling for every open 3, I think the game will get easier for him. Kudos to Coach Kelsey for not putting him back into the game after showing clear frustration after missing those foul shots. It was evident then that the missed shots were in his head. It will be interesting to see if he continues to start. Unfortunately UK doesn't start a player under 6'4" which will be a challenge for Reyne both on offense and defense.
