Louisville vs Ga Tech

I think it is her shoulder. She played limited minutes the other day and while on the bench she had an ice pack on her shoulder.

Up by 10 at the end of the 3rd quarter but Tech cut 7 points off our lead before the end of the quarter. We are going to have to play better bro win this game Tech is capable of winning this if we don’t play smart. I hope we don’t slow it and play not to lose because we are better when we play fast.

It would suck if we lose this game and that is what happens when you quit doing what works. This reminds me of the Oklahoma game.

Thankfully we are going to win this 69-60 but it got close. Tech had it down to 6 we just quit doing what was working and we almost paid the price for it. I guess you could say we bent but didn’t break. Good defense overcame the bad offense in the 4th quarter.

Great updates, Kozmas. Looked like the Cards were trying to use as much of the shot clock as possible for at least the last six minutes. Definitely lost some of the offensive rhythm that was so very good for much of the first three quarters.

Major respect to Jaleah Williams for battling down the stretch, with multiple key rebounds, a big steal, and a dagger of a 15 foot jumper. Very glad to see her playing up to her considerable potential.

Same concerns as you expressed Koz; as difficult as it is for me to ever criticize CJW, I felt like he contributed to the GT comeback late in the game.

There was an 11 minute span, beginning with about 3 minutes left in the 3rd quarter, that ended with about 90 seconds left in the game, in which time GT outscored the Lady Cards by 12 points, cutting our lead down to 5 points, before we scored the last 4 points to secure the win. During that critical 11 minutes, Jada only took two (2) shots, albeit she missed both 3s, however aside from her only taking two shots, my issue is not having Jada driving into the paint when GT's Dunn was guarding her, as Dunn was playing with 4 fouls, and it was evident that GT had Dunn intentionally avoiding any contact defensively; yet there was no effort to take advantage of GT's primary offensive weapon.

Aside from my observation, it was truly a great win and it puts UL back into contention to compete in the ACC.

Very good win. GT going to a zone really slowed the Cards down. Then, they went back to man-to-man and then back to zone. These switches make the offense reset themselves and figure out what to do. Not sure why CJW won’t switch up his D on occasion when the other tram is surging a bit.

Given our struggles with shooting the 3, and the success that we have had in the paint; I expect that Jeff may turn our half court offense more towards an inside game.

I also wish they would go more to the transition game instead of a half court game.
Hard to do that when our bigs are slow getting up and down the court. Watch and you'll notice that if the play goes up and down a few times, Cochran and Harris are last up the court. Their inside game is supposed to be a strength but I think that is the weakness of this team. Jeff is trying to create the best situation for his young team.

I have seen numerous times when Harris is up court fast enough to receive a full court pass from one of our guards for a breakaway layup. I don’t think the problem is we can’t do it I think in both the Oklahoma game as well as the Ga Tech game we had the lead the whole game both times. In both games in the 2nd half we slow the pace and run the clock and both teams were able to catch up. We lost to Oklahoma and we were able to hold on and beat Ga Tech.

Yeah it usually happens when she "snowbirds" she doesn't hustle back on defense, we get a turnover at the other end and she is still making her way back up the court. I'm not saying it happens all the time, but they can't sustain it over more than 1 or 2 possessions.

Oh I have seen Nyla coming back up court and reaching to try a tip a ball away from the dribbler (unsuccessfully) multiple times instead of just getting back where she belongs. I think both Nyla and Olivia can get down court and make a play. Finishing the play is often suspect and doing it consistently is a bit of an issue.

What I was originally responding to was whether we should try and play an up tempo game and I responded that I didn't think our bigs could play an up and down the court game, at least not for very long. I think the original poster was frustrated that we slowed the game down at the end which allowed the opponent to narrow the margin. But the men have done it too protecting a lead.

I know. I don’t get the sense CJW necessarily tried to slow the game down. Rather, move the ball and ensure a good shot is taken. If that takes some time so be it. If they have an opportunity to run they do. Tech going into a zone slowed the game down. Tech making more shots slowed the game down - you can’t get out and run with those made baskets. Again, I’ve seen O, Nyla and Istan all run the court and make plays. Doing that well consistently is, well, the tough part. Plus, for the bigs, of they are banging the boards they should be the last ones out on a break.

I think it is obvious to us and therefore it is more than likely obvious to our opponents that we struggle against a zone. We don’t struggle in an up tempo game so we either have to control the tempo or get better at attacking the zone.

💯. Crisp, decisive passing in order to create an open shooter is a must. Sometimes they do this…sometimes they do not. IMO this team is a decent passing team - not great or elite. Several factors play into that but it is what it is.
