Louisville @ Syracuse - Predictions

Their QB is very average, their running back is very good, they have a new OC - Robert Anae who was the OC at UVA. He routinely carved up our defense but then again we have made many OC’s look good. They are inexperienced on D Line and Malik has made them look like fools on defense. It has the feel of an old wrestling “loser leave town match”. The losing team will be a stretch to make a bowl and the losing coach assumes the mantle of coaching hot seat.

Alright it's game week. Educate me what's going to happen in this one?

-- They have a fantastic RB. I'm sure bigger programs came after him in the off season (Like Bama did with Tyler Harrell) but he stuck with the Cuse. Credit to Dino and gang for hanging on to him -- and credit to the kid for being loyal.

-- Their O-Line is massive.

-- They return their QB, who was a transfer from Miss State. So he should be decent to good.

-- I have no idea what their D will be like.

-- At the ACC Media days, a Syracuse LB popped off about Malik "not being all that difficult to defend", or words to that effect. I had forgotten about this, but last weekend, I had the opportunity to have lunch with our O-Line. In chatting with them, THEY reminded me of this episode. And told me they are very focused on #3, because of these words. So ... at least one of their guys has our guys' attention.

Whoever establishes the running game will have the advantage. Both teams will try to do so.

I am hopeful we can take control of the game and wear them down. But I will settle for one of those "1-point blowouts". Just get the W, and get ready for UCF on a short week,

.

This like most games will be won at the line of scrimmage.

Their DLine is young and smaller against a veteran line. Louisville should be able score in the 30’s

Their Oline is their strength with an excellent running back. The question os can Louisville man up their receiver and force their QB to beat them through the air? If so then they will have a hard time running it. Louisville may give up 24-28 points.

31-24 Louisville

Pushup nailed it ……. Cuse will do everything possible to control time of possession running the football. If UL can get a 2 possession lead early, and force Syracuse to leave their time possession running game ….. we win handily.

My fear is our defense cannot stop their running attack, and we will be forced to score offensively just to keep up. Once again it gets back to our defensive line negating their running game.

If we can jump out to a two TD lead and hold on to it until 1/2 time Cuse will have to pass the ball....

Well, if the defense can't stop Syracuse running game, then a lot of us can forget being optimistic for the season. The Orange have a great RB but they're far from being the standard with a running game.

The question should be if Syracuse can stop the Cards offense?

I've heard several analysts state this RB is one of the 3-5 best in the country. We just need to limit him, you arent going to stop him totally. If he has 25 carries for 140 yards and TD, we beat them by 10+. If he has 25 carries for 225 yards and 3 TD's, its gonna be a dogfight.

If Cuse can't pass the ball our D could just run blitz all day if the secondary could hold up in man coverage.

If Syracuse uses a ball control run offense that would be interesting. Babers has been known to run a fast tempo offense and the OC came from UVA which had one of the most pass happy offenses in the country. Frankly, I hope they try to do something they typically haven’t in the past.

I am not suggesting Syracuse is anywhere close to what UK exhibited last year, but Babers has film to examine and most observers will conclude that Syracuse personnel comes closer to UK than any other opponent who had success against us.

in response to RealVille: I too have little expectation that Syracuse can stop UL offense, but time of possession is going to be what Babers and his staff will see as their best chance of winning, as they will do their best to execute the same game plan as what UK showed against us last year, look for the QB draw on any 3rd and long.

They are big and very experienced, all the way across the line.

If Cuse is going to play the possession game; this could spell trouble for our DTs. Last year they couldn't get off the field and were totally gassed late in the 3rd and all of the 4th.

They have a new OC though, so our coaches have no idea what they are going to do outside of looking at film of Virginia.

Nice find Spot!
This huge Orange OL is precisely what concerns me. Size matters, and when comparing our small DL with their OL, it becomes evident as to what their game plan will be.

We can ill afford to get behind in this game.

We need to stuff the run OR be up by at least 14 at the half to get them out of their running game.

I hope we win the toss so we get the first possession of the second half and try to double dip and force them into passing situations. Then it will be less likely that our DL will get gassed.

Cards 27-17 or 34-24 something like that....a 10 point win or more.

I get a feeling this game might be a little more uncomfortable for us than we want it to be. I have this vision of a close game @ the half, with hopefully 2nd half adjustments to get our guys the win. Their RB and size is concerning, and playing on the road in a tricky venue at night won't be easy. Obviously it's a game we gotta have. If we can limit or outright eliminate turnovers I think we'll be okay. Would love. to see our D show something with some tackling behind the LOS. And let's force turnovers. GO CARDS!
