This was one of those meant to be defeats that all favored teams have experienced on the road. This new Louisville team is not immune to the momentum monster that creates these kind of upsets.
In that second half, GT looked like the Louisville team that had won 10 straight games. It looked like Reyne Smith was playing for GT. During that 21 to 3 run, GT looked like the Cards.
Louisville looked stunned and I saw the doubt that we haven't seen since December. They simply couldn't will their shots to go in this time.
GT were faster, quicker and more attentive than Louisville. They wanted it very bad and when the Cards didn't respond, it was like a feeding frenzy. Even when Kelsey adjusted to posting up and getting fouled, we missed all those free throws.
I think the guys realized that they would likely lose and there was nothing they could do to stop it. They lost focus and their attention to details was replaced with thoughts on how they couldn't believe this was happening.
I knew we weren't going to win out but was hoping the loss wouldn't be to a losing team. No telling how far Louisville will fall in the polls, both human and computer. This can be a good thing if they respond with another winning streak. They now have experienced how one half of lost focus can get you beaten by any team.
Always learning and adjusting.
