I used to live in Lexington--believe that!--for a short time many years ago. So I know what's there and what's not.
The problem is that you live in Lexington, but your fanbase is mostly rural. And I'm not hammering those people because U of L is increasingly attracting those fans and students. It's just that it's the university OF LOUISVILLE. And in truth, the coach at either premier State school doesn't care about the name. It's where he has his followers and responsibilities. For your coach, it's not the university OF LEXINGTON.
Credit to him now because he's OK with that. I think he sees LPT as mostly just a stage that he performs on nationally. And I think the converse is a big reason Pitino is in a place like Louisville and has remained here. Pitino needs to be in a place where he's happiest.
BTW with those characteristics of the job, locale, fans, etc. come Pitino's remarks about how the two fanbases structure their lives around the schools and handle wins and losses. The rural folks worship the State school; the city folks see it as a form or entertainment. And if your background is more city/urban, you relate more to the latter. I can only guess what Pitino says about the two when his mike is turned off.
"Elite program," my a$$...
