Is being completely ignored by the coaches and majority of the media. There must be some type of unspoken rule or agreement in place. Every position coach and unit is has spoken up about the veterans, newcomers, emerging talent, etc... But, basically no one is giving any real insight as to how this coaching staff is going to handle the lack of #'s on the D Line.
Pointed example.....during media day while D Line coach LD Scott was being interviewed he was asked "Since the lack of depth on the line is a concern, can you talk about a Freshman that may be able to contribute?"
His response, verbatim "Well, we only signed one D line player in the last class but we have a LB (Ethridge) that is playing well.....blah blah blah"
Completely dodges the issue and question altogether.
Be ready folks, it's not going to be pretty on the D line front this year. One injury or another dismissal, and that unit is burnt toast for the year.

This is a direct quote from the 2017 media guide- "There hasn't been a lot of questions with the defense over the last few seasons, but heading into fall camp, the depth on the defensive line is something to watch this season." So, it's not like UofL is hiding their concern. I think the #'s aren't severely low, but by my count we've got 9 guys to play the two DT positions. DE is little light, but a LB could fill in should lack of depth rear its ugly head. And, I didn't hear LD's interview, but he may have taken the position of "yeah, our DL #'s may be something to watch, but our LB's will pick up the slack."

There are 3 DT's with any measurable experience...after that it's RS FR, and walkons. At this level of competition we are 3 short of real success.

I pray I'm wrong, but I'm starring at a train coming down the tracks.

Haven't seen the mdeia guide yet as it hasn't arrived in the mail as of today at my house.

Do you remember what a true freshman did to O-line? He was inexperienced.

No, you lost me there. Please elaborate, and who that comparison needs to be for that is a true FR on the D Line this yr?

He may be referring to Ed Oliver, Houston's then freshman DT who had a huge game that fateful evening.

Play Dorsey and the other redshirt Fr --I think -Tillman along with Famurewa and Chandler as often as you can in the first couple of games. Then pray!

We DO have to have light injuries along the DL and cannot (as most teams) suffer multiple injuries there. But with that said I think we'll be surprised by the depth on the DL this season. There are some young guys that will help and they will play extensively during the first two games.

GO CARDS - BEAT EVERYBODY!!! God Bless America!!!

Being inexperienced on DL is not like being inexperienced at QB or even DB. Find the ball-attack- destroy. These guys can get "experienced" pretty quick.

Yep. Just bang around in the trenches. Not hard to figure out.

They can bang around all they want, but real experience, depth, and talent is what is needed to stop those crucial 4th qtr drives that have been daggers.

I was anxious to hear Petrino make a comment on the D Line and depth matters during his "end of camp" analysis. Not one word....cricket city on this matter unless I'm missing reports or comments I just haven't stumbled upon yet?

Bobby Petrino gave an analysis of the defensive line a week ago. He mentioned how pleased he was with Richardson and Bailey, and that Caleb Tillman, Derek Dorsey, G.G. Robinson, and Jonathan Grennard were getting a number of reps with the defensive line. The defense has eight starters returning and they have worked to develop depth during fall camp. I think the defense will continue to be competitive with every team on our schedule.

I must have missed that one. Good to hear some new names. I hope I'm wrong and the depth holds.

Would anyone like to tell me I was wrong and admit you were blind?

It's a joke and will only get worse

This is all on Bob.

Nepotism is cancer
LD is complete garbage
And Nick needed to start with a high school team, not Louisville and the ACC.
And inept hires across the board.

The worst recruiting year over year ever considering where Charlie left us and being elevated to the ACC.

Who's buying those adidas 3 stripe zone tickets in the expanded end zone this week?

If Bob returns expect an even further decline next year. Without Lamars scrambling we would be blown off the field by every team we faced or will face that is P5

Who could argue with this.

I don’t know. In some ways, Lamar being so gifted takes us away from what we have historically done well. His skill set doesn’t line up with a classic CBP offense. Maybe with a different QB, there would be more balance.
But the defense....

I think there is some merit to the BP-LJ being a bad fit theory. Once teams figured out how to play Lamar individually, it forced LJ to beat teams with either accurate passing (not his strong suit) or running against a stacked defense. Lamar is doing exceptionally well individually under those circumstances, but he is not able to consistently spread the ball around. He is not particularly adept at seeing/finding the open receiver or getting the ball to them when they are open accurately. And that task is made even more difficult when he is continually being chased out of the pocket. As blasphemous as it sounds, I think the offense will be more consistently potent (but not as explosive) when Pass takes over.

And I'm not buying the theory that Charlie's guys being gone is the issue on defense. I think plenty of talent exists on that side, but I don't think they are being coached or motivated well at all.

the entire situation is based on coaching, and recruiting, and program building.
I really like a lot of our players and feel it's all on Bob.

This issue falls on Petrino and Grantham...it going to bit Louisville until 2019...next year will not be much btr even if we hold onto the commitments....no experience
