I've heard some wild a$$ talk show participants since the Spring game now alleging a media conspiracy to over-exaggerate the differences between Bonnafon and Bolin. I guess because Bonnafon is a local kid, and Bolin is from WAY over in Fayette County. During football season, I also recall some fans suspicious of Petrino's insistence on giving Bonnafon opportunities and playing time, as if he hadn't earned it.

If you're one of the paranoid, pro-Bolin guys wondering about this stuff, you're doing yourself more harm than good going down that path. I'm about as neutral as I can be on which QB eventually gets the start for U of L against Auburn. But I understand the advantage that Petrino sees in Bonnafon, not so much at quarterbacking, but being able to run the ball effectively. Bolin actually needs to be a better quarterback--decision-making and throwing--than Bonnafon to offset Bonnafon's advantage as a dual threat guy.

The media is in large part parroting what they hear football staffers saying. The way that scrimmage was run gives the advantage to the 1st string QB. We know that and so does Petrino. He saw all of the practices I saw in which, everything being equal, Bolin ran the offense just about as well as Bonnafon did. In the 2nd half of that scrimmage, we had proof of that. And Petrino just cares about winning games, not who gets to play.

So if you're in Bolin's camp and upset a little bit, calm down and think clearly. Your boy will get his chance to shine. And he will get what he earns and not what the rest of us are ganging up on him to make happen...
