Huge props to Louisville Field Hockey junior Julie Kouijzer, who has been named Atlantic Coast Conference Defensive Player of the Week for the period ending on September 26 as announced by the ACC office today. It's Kouijzer's second weekly honor of the season and the third of her career.
From Amsterdam, the Netherlands, Julie notched the lone goal of the game in Louisville's 1-0 win at No. 18 Duke on Friday. Her third goal of the season helped the Cardinals move to 2-0 in ACC play and 8-1 on the season. She was also instrumental in keying the Cardinals to its fifth shutout of the season. Sowry's stick swingers the Blue Devils to five shots, only one on goal.
Kouijzer also scored the game-winner in Monday's 2-1, double-overtime victory at No. 19 Ohio State, She's is now tied atop team standings with 11 points (4 goals, 3 assists).
The #3 Cardinals will return to action on Friday, October 1, hosting #16 Wake Forest Action starts at 4 p.m.
