Kentucky:

Forbes needed a reset and it looks like he got it. I was at most of those Fall games when his stuff was electric. Sat right behind home and watched him carve up everything in his path. Curve, slider and the fastball that he was locating.
He's always been the Friday guy. I hope the reset gets him throwing in the mid 90s again with that location. Jmo

That was some major disappointment last night. Not fun at all. Everyone, fans included, need to have short memories. On to a more important match up with FSU.

Perhaps I’m thinking outside the box, but UofL played so uninspired against UK, I wonder if it was intentional by Mac. A coaching move at a high but complicated level. Get them focused on FSU. It’s a huge, upcoming series. A midweek game against a mid level SEC team, fuggit about it.

Or, I could be in denial.

Regardless, the Cards must take this series.

Forbes (to me) is turning out to be a slightly better version of Hawks. Their upside is great. Their downside - third time thru the lineup and they start to lose it.
Not bad comparison although Hawks was a big time strikeout pitcher in HS, he had something like 80 strikeouts in over 70 innings at U of L, which is ok. Forbes has 69 strikeouts in only 43 innings. After posting a 8.31 ERA in 13 innings (which is not a lot) in his 1st full season of minor league baseball, looks like Hawks may be moved from a starter to the bullpen. Hope he figures it out.

I select denial. I don't even know how a coach would intentionally tell his players to lay down (especially knowing the rivalry between UK) and just focus on the weekend. It was simply starting a decent pitcher hope he does well in 3 innings, your bats show up and your pitching keeps it close. Nothing more, nothing less.

The staff has been wildly inconsistent back to back games they have given up 10 and 17 free bases. That is absurd. Now the guys they used weren’t regulars either. He was throwing the very bottom of the rotation besides the 1-2 guys.

In that regard yeah he decided he wasn’t going to use many if any of the regular mid inning guys.

I'd say maybe if it wasn't back to back years.

Remember last year, they were up 15-5 on us and we had some garbage run that made it close.

In our last 3 games against them they've outscored us 37-22. That's lackluster effort.

I noticed that as well. I think once the game started to get away, Mac decided to rest everybody he thought would be in the mix this weekend. It was a game that loomed larger for uk than us. We need to get Forbes and Detmers back this weekend or it starts to slip away again. I don't see any other options...for this season.

Dan latest comments indicate that Forbes is weeks away and Detmers maybe even longer...

If that is true the season is shot.
I am not convinced even with Forbes and Parker we were in any way going to make a serious ACC/NC2A tournament run. Munroe at 3rd struggles to consistently field. He had a ball get pass him just a few days ago vs UK that imo should have been an error. And the last time I looked he was leading the team in errors. Tyson is a warrior but is a disaster behind the plate. Between Tagger, Baker and Mowry we must lead the ACC in passed balls. Full disclosure - I have not looked at that stat. And of course, we have discussed our pitching staff all season long.

This Cardinal BB Team is “schizophrenic” in every respect, even when they are predictable, they can flip to unpredictable. One game they win 25-8, only to come back and lose another game 17-5. Yesterday was a good example, being down 4-0 early on, but finishing off with an 8-0 response against a very excellent #4 FSU team.

I know Lippe deserves all the credit that CDM gave him in his post game interview with Moth, but the big difference that I witnessed was the relief pitching job the Freshmen from Trinity delivered to close out the win. There have been so many games where our rotation could not protect a 4 or 5 run lead.

Last observation: the rest of the ACC is just about as unpredictable as UL; Clemson was #2 just a week or so ago, but are clearly struggling at NCST after their home loss to the Cards. If UL was able to figure out some miraculous way to finish in the top 4 going into the ACC Tournament, anything is possible.

Well,I think the offense going anemic(a direct quote from Moth) last weekend and until that bustout yesterday is directly just from seeing better pitching. Tbs,they're capable but you have to know how good pitchers are going to come at you. Pitching ahead in the count and getting you to chase. I'd like to think this being big boy baseball, they will get the adjustments done.
The season is counting on it. The guys that pitched Tuesday were sacrificial lambs,so to speak. We're maybe not as far away as it might seem if we get people healthy and the hitters turn the tables on the scouting reports.
Alright, I'm wore out. Let's get this one today! Not sure who's starting, maybe Cutts?
