JUCO DLs?

I'm sure we will be signing some for this year (meaning in the 2018 recruiting class). We have 7 seniors in our defensive front seven depth chart (Richardson, Shortridge, Bailey, Williams, Young, Hearns, and Thomas), so 2018 recruiting will be all about the defensive front seven.

Is there any possible way (are any eligible) to redshirt one of these guys? If they would agree to it of course. May have one that wants to pursue a masters degree?;)

we have several open scholarships so hopefully we sign one or two juco guys that can pressure the QB. tehere are always late qualifiers so I hope we find some.

next season we will need them because it is hard to come in as a freshman and play on a college Dline and have success. we are in that boat now.

If we got a top 5 DT he could hold down the fort more than likely with Robinson and the others in 2018. Really stunk not getting Hutch this year.

Maybe I misread your intent but to me your statement reads as: We'll probably sign some in 2018 so it doesn't matter that (as of now) we get zero for 2017. It hurts to have a hole in a class. Your seniors need to have junior backups and then sophomores and then freshmen. Most take a few years to be ready to contribute. Having an entire class with no D lineman messes with your depth chart and depth and forces future lineman to have to play earlier and younger than they may be ready to do. Signing DL in 2018 doesn't negate the experience, reps, depth and depth chart problems this could cause in future seasons.

DL recruits whether in HS or JUCO will see playing time.....early playing time available when they get an offer from the Cards this year. That in itself will make choosing UofL a very attractive situation to the 4* and maybe even 5* prospect that are not strong on waiting to play.

This years class will have a lot to say about the future of this program on the "D" side of the ball. As always.....time will tell if the changes in the staff by CBP pay off in the recruiting dept. Proof will be in the pudding.....this is a land mark year for CBP in more ways than one.

When I posted that, I did think that we were done for this class, but Chris Person has stated on the Collision Course board that the coaches are still recruiting for 2017. I haven't heard any names yet, but I would not count out one or two late additions in the DL.

The names mentioned that UofL is recruiting for 2018 in the DL are really impressive. Elvis Dumervil has a nephew who is about 6-4 and 350 pounds, and could play either offensive or defensive line. UofL is the leader for him. Also, the number 1 JC player in the country for 2018 is a massive DT. UofL is recru iting him, but everyone else will probably be, as well.

This is a broader issue, but the high 3* and 4* kids that we want are NOT content to redshirt, wait a few years before contributing, and remain in college for five years. That's old school thinking.

The kids we think we can now sign wanna see PT right away, get their degrees in three years (or get close), and have a real shot at going to the NFL after their junior years. Obviously, seeing the field right away is tough for true freshmen in certain positions.

But it's also why it's not the disaster that it once was not to have balanced classes. Look at our O-line issues this year. Bam! You recruit five 4-star O-linemen who think they have a real chance of coming in and starting. And the O-line is probably the toughest position for a newcomer to play.

My guess is we will see some good D-linemen signed between now and next year at this time. And several will compete for PT during the 2018 season, or at least they expect to...
