BREAKING: Former Louisville running back Jeremy Smith has returned to the Cardinals’ football program for his senior season per multiple sources. Smith went through his first practice on Tuesday afternoon.

Per the CJ:

Jeremy Smith is back in Louisville.

The fifth-year senior running back has returned to campus and is practicing with the Cardinals this week, a source with firsthand knowledge of the situation confirmed Wednesday.

Smith played at Louisville from 2015-17 and then obtained his release to transfer following last season. He has graduated and would have been eligible immediately for his final season. He looked around at other schools, but now he's back to practice at Louisville.

Smith began his career at Fresno City College and then transferred to Louisville. He finished third on the team in rushing in each of his first two seasons, with 117 total carries for 652 yards.

Then, he suffered a season-ending injury early last September and obtained a medical redshirt for a final season of eligibility.

This is interesting from the aspect that Jeremy transferred to another school but didn’t play because he was rehabbing from injury. So in order to play his final year of eligibility at U of L, wouldn’t he have had to enroll for this semester? How come we are only hearing about it now?

Smith was injured early last season and hardly played. He graduated and asked to transfer, but did not find another school. I’m sure you can still enroll for this semester in late August. Really should help the depth chart.

Smith was a good runner with a tendency to fumble in the red zone. He could definitely be a help if he has cured his fumble-itis.
