One thing I'm really glad about is that UK actually had to play a good SEC team the week before us. We all know that since the game moved to the end of the season UK has either had the week before the game as a bye week or a gimme easy win game. Meanwhile here are our games the week before the UK game the last 3 years:
2014: At Notre Dame
2015: At Pittsburgh
2016: At Houston
I truly believe that has been a big difference in the game and the biggest reason why UK upset us last year and have played us close in other years. We had a hangover after the big ND win in 2014 and were reeling after the Pittsburgh and Houston losses. Meanwhile UK essentially had two weeks to prepare, rest and get healthy.
Not trying to use it as an excuse, we should still beat UK either way, but I do like the fact that the playing field is truly even in this game for the first time since 2013. Now given with our defense I'm still a little bit nervous about this game. We all know that we are UK's Super Bowl every year and that we won't get the UK effort that we saw against Georgia, Ole Miss or Mississippi State. Never mind they are playing to get to 8 wins and that could be the difference in going to the Liberty Bowl or going to the Belk, Music City or even TaxSlayer bowl. We'll be getting UK's best effort and we have to be prepared for that.
