Several people seem to think that, but it is not accurate. I think it started because of Cam Newton and then later Nick Marshall at Auburn. Right around the same time, Johnny Manziel and TAMU beat us at home so it kind of stuck. The reality is that since Saban has been there, the QB's that have beaten us are the ones who can consistently hit tight windows down field and it helps if he is willing to run too. Running QB's become a problem since Alabama plays man coverage about 85-90% of the time. If you run down the list of QB's that have beaten Alabama in the past nine years, most are not guys you think of as runners but all of them except one was very accurate down field (at least, that day). Steven Garcia (S. Carolina), Trevor Knight (Oklahoma), Bo Wallace and Chad Kelly (Ole Miss), Cardale Jones (Ohio State) - none of those guys are considered runners. Newton and Marshall are the only ones that ran a spread option offense. All of the other spread options we have seen have not been a problem.
