How much should Bobby allow the starters to play Saturday? I know he likes to rub UK’s nose in it, and the big bowl game will still be a number of weeks away, but why risk anybody on these losers. The players on the field don’t really matter, it’s the name on the uniforms. Our 2nd and 3rd stringers will be more than enough against the joke of the SEC.

UK is a born loser. No team snatches defeat from the jaws of victory better than UK. But, they still consider this a rivalry game (although that would be like saying UK and Austin Peay have a rivalry going). I don’t want some jacked up UK player to trip over his own feet and somehow hurt Lamar.

Offensive line needs more work...James Quick on the other hand needs to become a distant memory! Hate to rag on a guy but he cost us two years straight against Clemson. TWO YEARS IN A ROW!

It all depends on how mature this team is.

Channel the coaching job that BP did against a dangerous USF team the week after losing at Rutgers in 2006. Proud moment in Cards history.

Great point. It's up to the players to have the maturity to bounce back from the disaster in Houston. If they do, then UofK is toast. The talent gap between the two football rosters isn't very wide, but we have LJ, and Petrino. UofK does not.

I think the talent gap on defense is pretty large too.

It is but while UK's defense has been subpar, their offensive line has played well and they have been running the ball successfully since Johnson has been at QB. Our defense needs to come ready to play Saturday.

I don't want to see a repeat of the Duke game with Lamar watching the opponent grinding out first downs. Shut em down, get turnovers
and let our offense bury them early and late.

The best D that LPT has played the last half of the season was Georgia's, and they barely logged 300 yards playing at home.

Now, the slappies are playing the best defense they've played since Bama, and they're on the road.

I need a lot of convincing that I should be concerned about their offense...

We'll find out what this team is made of. Blow the kittens out of the water and we'll know they belong in the Orange Bowl and Houston was an aberration. Fumble the hall away several times and let UK make a game of it and maybe we belong in another Russell Athletic Bowl.
UofL is light years better than UK. Cards need to show that Saturday.

My two concerns- UofL's emotional state after missing out on the playoffs in such an abysmal fashion, and the Cards have typically played down to the level of bad to mediocre teams. I can't foresee UofL playing as bad as they did against Houston, however.

I understand, and you make good points.

Still.... let's be honest, it's UK, not a real Division I college football team. Even if we don't show up to play initially, once the guys see that UK is serious and delusionally thinks that a real rivalry exists, then we'll go ahead and get it over. But I still worry about injury from frustrated and humiliated UK players if we keep the starters in too long..

Stoops has already basically said he's going to try to follow the Duke blueprint: Ball control and keep UofL's offense off of the field. They have the capability with their running game to do it. DO NOT underestimate Boom, JoJo and Snell. All 3 are great backs and their O line isn't shabby. The QB adds another run threat and has the arm and accuracy for an unexpected deep ball. UK's problem in that department is their receivers don't have a lot of break away speed and are prone to drops if they do get open, especially Badet. So they can present a problem if their game plan is successful.

UKs defense will most likely be gashed several times by the Cards. They give up lots of big plays on the ground and in the air. Both corners are good, very tall, but also very young. I do think Westry will be playing on Sundays one day.

Bottom line, deny UK their game plan. Stack the box and let the secondary play man (GAWD I hope Josh Harvey Clemons and Shaq Wiggins will be able to go). I feel confident with those two, Alexander, Washington and Williams all healthy. Use Clemons as the rover and let the other 4 play more pure secondary. Our defense will determine the outcome of the game. Stop the run, make them throw, get them off the field so the offense can do its thing. UK can't win a shootout with us.

Not last year, but his sophomore year. Curious that in both cases, he took a non optimal path to the goal line and was stopped short both times. It's a pity that a guy with his talent isn't a sure-fire draft choice. He just has a hard time making the easy play.
